Pretty sure if Crawford faced the same shots Quick did, at least 10 would go in each game.

Sad to see blow outs in these games being played, not even exciting to watch.

Pens brought this on themselves. Whenever a team tries to get dirty against the Bruins, it always wakes the Bs up like a pissed off bear and they start mauling.

The series heads back to LA tonight.

I am predicting a 4-2 win by the Hawks.

This will be the quickest series ever for Quick and Co.

I'm for it, but I wonder if everyone has just gotten used to the new normal and if any kind of downsizing will create an avalanche of goal scoring. I'd like to find out though.

I'm 100% for it. Goalie equipment long ago ceased to be about protecting the actual goalie. Outside of taking shots to the face and sore catching hands, when is the last time a goalie was injured by a puck? I'm going to say roughly never. Shrink that shit down. Maybe then we'll see the return of acrobatic goalies with talent, as opposed to 6'6" robots with perfect positioning and massive pads.

Somewhat related, but that reminded me of something. I don't remember which game it was, but they were talking about some old timer goalie and not wearing a facemask as a goalie. That's fucking insane. Guess the last (NHL) game without a goalie wearing one was 1974.

I'd be all for it for the reasons that Eomer stated - my concern is that even with the bigger bulky pads, the scoring had not diminished.

If they shrink the pads down, the scoring will start getting ridiculous for a few years until a new breed of goalies emerges that relies less on gear and more on skill

Scoring is down a little bit the past couple of years from the years right after the '04 lockout ended, right? Now I think that's just because they've stopped calling as many penalties and the old obstruction/clutching and grabbing have come back into the game a little bit, but I wonder if goalie equipment has continued to get bigger in that time.

I do think if they significantly shrink the gear in one big step, you could see a scoring explosion like someone topping 70 goals or something nuts like that. Hell maybe even higher.

Every time I think the scoring might have diminished, I just look at the Penguins.

But not at their series with the Bruins.

Gretzky and Lemieux used to put up 150+ points every year. I have no fucking problem with them making it so Crosby, Stamkos, and Tavares have a chance to do the same. Or at the very least making it so more than a handful of guys can hit triple digits.

Lemieux scored 161 in '96/97. Since then the only person to break 125 was Jagr 3 years later. Numbers are shit since then. Before that the last time a full season ended with a leader under 130 was 1975. Between those cunts in Jersey and their cuntass left wing lock bullshit and the expansion of goalie pads it's just been neutering scoring for 20 years. Fuck. That. Open the God damned game up and let the scorers fucking score.

Get that shit back up comfortably over 6 goals a game average, then let's talk about how there's "too much" scoring.

Define ridiculous. I'd be perfectly happy with a return to the scoring rates of the early 90's, if not quite the mid 80's. I doubt that will happen though, as that was a historically high period in the game.

But again, why is that a bad thing? People like high scoring games, for the most part. It would bring more excitement to the game. Fuck it, let's see if anyone can challenge Gretzky's individual season records.

I'd have no problem getting back up to ~7 goals a game.

I think a decent scoring rate is a goal every 10 minutes. Yeah it sounds pretty arbitrary, but I enjoy games where there is enough scoring to stay interested, but not so much that it becomes expected and common. I get bored watching games that are like 5-7 or 6-7, etc.

4-3 scoring games are my favorite.
