I don't think it's a bad thing necessarily, I just think it'll be a real shock to the game. What is the current average goals per game? I wouldn't mind 6, but 7 might be a bit high. Give the goalies some chance.

Fuck the goalies, they've been pampered and catered to for two fucking decades. We've had 2 generations of amazing talent wasted by the bullshit defenses and goalie equipment. Jagr would be top 3 all time if not for that shit. Think about a guy like Mogilny who was just hitting his stride when the left wing lock and giant pads became commonplace. He couldn't stay healthy, but he also got fucked by those things to the tune of probably another hundred goals in his career. Teemu Selanne? Pavel Bure? Sergei Fedorov? These are guys that could have been talked about with the greats. Instead what guys who have played most of their careers in the last 15-20 years get talked about with the legends? Goalies and defensemen.
Shit, even someone like Brett Hull who got in good time before the shit came got boned out of some prime years.

Not sure about my brother, having absolutely no goalie to cheer for has really shellshocked him. He's usually the biggest hockey fan I know, past week or so he's just seemed in a kind of hockey malaise. He wants the Pens to win, but he can't seem to work up his usual level of shit-giving for it.

At the very least they need to just have a set size. Goalies like Pekka Rinne and Mike Smith would be terrible if they didn't have insanely big pads. Well, I guess Smith can at least move the puck really well. That Brodeur style of flying goaltender would be resurrected.
i linked this article because a coworker of mine and I have talked about this in the past. I originally mentioned that they should decrease the pad size on the assumption that they were initially increased to avoid injury. my thought, from no background in textiles/engineering, is that it's 2013 and there must be some relatively light weight material that can provide equal protection with far less size.
larger pads, gear etc = bigger target to block shots.
look up Ken Dryden from the 70's and compare his setup to any goalie now.
dryden wears THE gear goalies wear now and he would have been even better than he was- and i say this as a BRUINS FAN.
