Every year there are a couple of FA's to be on the Cup winner that get overpaid in free agency though. Sometimes even just guys on teams who didn't win the Cup but had a great playoffs to be viewed as a "playoff performer" which ups their price tag. He might get more than you think if a bidding war starts.
Yeah, but with only 15 players signed including DiPietro (no other goalie signed). They have a ton of cap space for sure, but their roster is also barely half signed. They've also got half a dozen prospects whose entry level contracts are actually fair expensive, cap hit wise, that they'll probably be bringing up a few of next year.
fwiw, bickell has stated recently he will offer a hometown discount to stay in chicago. Dunno if that is just silver polish fumes from the cup talking or not, we will see.
Even if he signs for less than 2m they still can't fit him in, unless they trade or buyout some larger contracts. Chicago is basically at the cap right now with 13 forwards, 6 d and 1 goalie signed. Bolland is on the trading block, and you'd think Frolik would be too.
