As someone who has a switch, I can tell you this:
Graphics and sound are garbage when on the tv in comparison to my pspro, the controllers are small unless doing the full loadout or pro controller, and the library is lacking to say the least.
Nintendo, in their further infinite wisdom, refuse to pay even Dolby a licensing charge to use compressed 5.1 tracks. With limited storage on the cartridge, I highly doubt anything will ever come in as a true uncompressed 5.1 LPCM track. So yeah, audio will suffer horrendously. The other issue is most people do not even know that unless they have a current receiver, their receiver won't pass uncompressed LPCM anyway.
The battery life is TREMENDOUS
The battery life sucks. 2.5-3 hours max when playing a AAA game. Not sure how long it lasts playing Mario Kart. With indie games you are looking around 5 hours. The only two good things about it are it charges fast, and you can use external battery packs. For my PS Vita, I had this:
Amazon.com: Nyko Power Grip for PS Vita (PCH-2000): Video Games
And it GREATLY enhanced battery life. Up to 8-10 hours. However, it took overnight to charge fully.
The battery life is pitiful. So unless you meant to say tremendously pitiful, that statement is outright false.
if you find a game you enjoy you will LOVE it, and the graphics and sound when portable are nice.
Graphics sure, for a portable. Sound doesn't make any sense. Because it's the same sound you get when docked. Which sucks. Because docked or not, it cannot support mainstream audio features and sounds the same regardless. (Which was hilarious when Nintendo actually tried to say the Switch will have better audio then the Wii U version for Zelda - it's technically not even flipping possible for that to happen unless Nintendo released an Audio Pack to download the entire uncompressed track on your mem card, much less, develop that track which they didn't)
It needs more games though because it just collects dust once you knock out what you like, the closed ecosystem is garbage and I can't wait for it to get rooted.
Agreed. Rocket League will give it a lot of longevity as long as it plays well via portable. The 2017 remainder for games outlook is not good. About 3-4 anyone will care about unless you want to pay double the price for indie titles and do not have a Vita or a 3DS and can play them via portable already. Those 3-4 being Rocket League, Mario, Xenoblade 2, and Splatoon 2. Splatoon 2 isn't shaping up to be anything special, and people are a bit cautious on Xenoblade 2 due to Xenoblade Chronicles X being complete garbage. With that said, if they had remastered Xenoblade Chronicles for the Switch, I'd be playing it right now. I loved the game and wanted to play more, but could NOT get passed 480p on the Wii. And I never upgraded my 3DS XL to the New 3DS XL to play the portable version.
