I bought the original top of the line LCD back not long after they launched, and I skipped the OLED update because at this price point it's just not worth it IMO to buy every revision of something like this. I figure they will release one with updated hardware eventually and that's when I'll get a new one. Honestly if Steam announced a new Steam Deck with more powerful hardware today I think I would buy that over a Switch 2 because I just see myself getting far more use out of that, especially while the Switch 2 is still in it's first year as a new platform. Heck Microsoft's new Xbox handheld has me interested and questioning if I would rather have that over a Switch 2 as well as I can apparently take advantage of all the Xbox games I bought over the years that also work on Windows and those games can be bought relatively cheap these days as well.

yeah I forgot about Xbox’s handheld. If that runs Steam as well then it’ll be a purchase for me for sure.

Preorders for the Switch 2 opened in Sweden today — around $746 for the bundle and $673 for the base console. I was pretty hyped about the backwards compatibility until I learned it’s a mix of software and hardware solutions (and price).

Bro.... that was at the height of cartridge bloat bro...the CD fixed all that price bloat...bro please bro... and Nintendo with their stupid N64 staying on carts bro was all just a stupid thing and cost more bro they never can compete with the platstation bro...plz bro the prices..nintendo is dumb bro
Those cartridges were never that expensive in any store, that had to be some sort of mail order ad bullshit.

Strider was probably the most expensive normal cartridge around that time frame at 69.99 at any retailer.

Didn't spend a lot of money on console games. NES and megaman. Later AMIGA, oh yes. I think I had 100 floppy disks and A500, and spent a night and 10 bucks each month at a friend who had a pirate mail subscription and an external FDD for his A1200. Daaaaht, dat, dat, dat, dat, dat, dat, dat, dat, dat, dat, dat, dat, daaaaaaaht, dat, dat, dat. RED SECTOR 79. Kek.

If there is a Switch 2 price hike, it'll probably be offset by just trading in the Switch 1 towards it. Not like I need it for anything after this. Should be able to get around $200 at Gamestop due to the system launch trade in bonus. You could maybe get more than that on Ebay or something post-launch, but Gamestop is a better bet because they can just do a simple data transfer from the old system to a new one and you're good to go. Did that when I got a PS5 there. Walked out with about $250 off the PS5 cost and all my PS4 data moved to the PS5.

OLED Switch dropped from $143 to $121 today and that's the Pro member price. They might still run a promo for trading in towards a Switch 2, but I'll be surprised if it's more than $160 or so. Normally I'd agree with you and I try to do the trade-in thing on most new consoles I buy, but their offers for something that still sells for $350 are criminal.

That's what I was saying. I was into games and going to stores like Toys R Us back in the day checking out the games back then and I never saw prices like that. That's why I asked about country, felt like that must have been Canadian or Australian prices or something.

it was a KB Toys ad from Canada after more research. And yes, pricing was all over back then. Here’s an American ad. I know this is correct because I bought Maximum Carnage at release and my dad yelled at me for spending that much of my money on it.

...and just like that the narrative will shift from "omg nintendo so greedy" to "poor nintendo beat up by orange man"
Looking forward to them trying to sell a 700 dollar Switch.

Now that looks far more accurate for SNES during it's peak. Was going to say, $70 is believable, some games did sell for that, but nothing was selling for $90
