Hrmmm... I thought they said you'd rarely, if ever run into other players? If everyone can just get coordinates and go to whatever discovered planet won't you be running into players quite often?
I wonder if distance between points traveled is limited by the capacity of your hyper drive unless you've discovered the planets yourself. Otherwise, what would limit players who start a year after release from warping right to the center of the galaxy?

The best part of this game will be when some Salon or Polygon writer travels to an already discovered planet named Wakandan DICK.

From what I've read so far, I don't think the game will keep track of how you have changed the seed-generated world you happen to be on, except in your own client and while you still have it loaded. I don't think the game will have a means for you to load a world that others have modified, other than information like names and the location of planets and what resources it has (in general). I think that they even mentioned that if you leave the planet and then return to it later that any changes you made the first time will not be saved and the planet will simply re-generate from the seed again. In fact, my guess is that due to the limits of having the game generated in this way, that even if I gave you coordinates to a planet I'm currently on you wouldn't be able to see me because the game will have to generate the planet for you from the seed but they don't have a means (currently) to let you load my own "Seed + Changes" version of the planet.

But that's just my impression so far, and I could be wrong.

You don't have the unencumbered right to free speech (and naming planets in No Man's Sky)!

Think that's all mostly correct, but when players are near each other the clients have limited lobby support and they'll be merged into one, letting you actually play together. Otherwise yeah, I think in one of the IGN videos when he exists the atmosphere he mentions that what he did on the surface is gone.

The ability for players to get to each other though will depend entirely on how they're distributed, I wonder how random that will be. Every player in the game could end up tens of thousands of systems away from every other player.

Yes it was explained a long time ago that the distance you can travel will be limited by your ship upgrades. The "point" of the game is to reach the center of the galaxy. Combined with a random galactic starting point it means even if you know where your friends are, you likely will not be able to reach them.

What a masturbatory article. At this point I'm pretty convinced this game is just basically a tech demo. Every time I read someone going on about how "OMG SO HUGE" the game is it just reinforces how little else it has to offer
It is, I only posted it because its the first time I can recall anyone straight out saying what the point of the damn game is lol.

Fly around and name shit offensive names that trigger people: the game is basically what it is.

Its ridiculous.

Huh, I must have missed that. I guess that would be better.
