I have a new theory. There never WAS a multiplayer component. We are playing in a localized sandbox, and along with procgen everything, they also had a VERY small sample variable of the chance you will run into a named planet, which will also be procedurally generated. And with that HG has been full of shit this entire time. And how the hell would we know?
Doesn't make sense to build a multiplayer layer in a game that will never get used. So I'd tend to agree

Some of those, "You can play with friends" - so people are thinking immediately, hey sweet, we can explore together. Nope. Now, in fact, you probably won't see anyone at all or even run across a named planet for all we know.
The cheapest and most deceptive way to solve that, would be to procgen/fake out everyone. Procgen/Bots.

At this point, I don't think there's any chance that all the "very low chance of encountering other players" isn't just an out and out lie and that this game will have zero multi-player component as an sane person would define multi-player.
