I could see them bringing back a bearded Mark Hamill as the wise Jedi Master
And then subsequently killing him off in the first film ala Alec Guinness after he has "passed the torch" on to whoever the next lead charactor(s) will be for the new series

Mark Hamill - Born 1951, would shoot next Star Wars lets say sometime in 2014, at the age of 63.

There's a reason they can't use the books as material...the old cast are still arguably the most important characters in all of them, aside from their kids taking their roles in the spotlight. They're just too old for it to work. Honestly I just can't see them making a good movie out of it.

You guys just aren't thinking creatively enough. If I was J.J., I would just give Carrie and Harrison the "Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru" treatment in the first 5 minutes of the film.

Yeah, have Fisher and Harrison in the movie and as mentioned give them the old "Uncle Owen" treatment. Enough screen time to establish that :
a) They got married
b) Lived out a nice life having some kids
c) Died gruesomely enough that the kids have to run and end up at "Uncle Luke's Jedi Academy"
Then you can have Hamil in the movies in a bit part as the leader of the Jedi Council. Not directly taking the main as an apprentice because he's related to him/her.

Another idea that came to mind that I think they might want to consider is to take the Tron (Jeff Bridges) approach with the older characters. I don't know if the technology is there yet but Star Wars was always known for it's cutting edge special effects.
Although Carrie and Harrison obviously look much older now, their voices are arguably pretty much the same as in 1977-1983. Just CGI those titties and get Carrie into the recording booth for the voice over. I just want to see some Princess Leia T and A again!

can just have carrie and harrison play their same role. they dont get uncle owened. they're still bouncing around in the falcon but because technology has passed them by its no longer the fastest ship ever or thats what they want people to believe. actually over the years han has been modifying the ship with the times and its still the fastest thing around. he just pilots it like its slower. they survive the movies, they just help out from time to time. ya know sort of like lando did in Jedi.
