The only game I've played in the past month has been MTG Arena, so I really don't need a new computer.

I'd play more Star Wars Squadrons but I still can't get a flight stick.
Ok so why are you waiting for ddr5? Current pc should last you next ten years.

MTG started in 1993 so I don’t believe you.

There's actually a bunch of games I've put off playing until I get a new video card, but the rest of my computer is fine.

Alrighty, now to wait for all these to ship so I can get a 3000 series CPU on the cheap.

I get the enthusiasm around Zen 3 and I hope they sell a buttload so my AMD stocks go up a lot, but I was a little surprised that Intel easily kept the 1440p/4k gaming crown, though the margin is very small. It seems for most gamers Intel is still the best and unless you do content creation then 12+ cores is just a huge waste that won't help anyone. I had been planning on picking up a 5900X or maybe a 5950X but honestly without it really taking the top spot, I think i'd rather just keep the 8700K around a little longer until at least the Zen 3 XT release or 11th gen.

Why the hell would you look at 1440p/4K benchmarks for CPUs when the only factor at these resolutions is the GPU and any variation at the high end between CPUs is in the margin of error of your test protocol?

Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't that where the vast majority of users are, at least those buying $500+ CPUs? I doubt anyone who buys a $5900X is going to have a 1080P monitor anymore. Also, is there any reason to believe that the 5600+ will age better with future 4K games than Intel's current top gen? Serious question

The biggest thing is price/perf. Plus the much better ability to work multiple processes. Like the 5600x performs comparable to a 10900 at less than half price. Just crazy to me

CPU can still effect things like minimum frame times at those resolutions, so if your goal is the smoothest gaming experience, then this is still semi-relevant.

This. And then again, looking at some benches, Intel has like 1 more fps than AMD at that resolution. How is that even relevant?

I run everything at original EQ resolution. It's cozy.

Totally right, it's just not "the best" at high end gaming but I'm sure Intel will be pressured to drop prices considering AMD is so close and you'd have to be a dunderhead to pay double for 2% with no other upside. PCIE 4.0 is a good reason to go AMD with high end gaming too, though all the claims of 3.0 being a bottleneck to gaming at 4k were apparently overblown.

I think I'm putting off a full upgrade until next year. Hopefully get good deals on the 58/5900X next holiday season.

In the meantime, I need stock to increase on these new video cards so I can pick up a cheap 2070 super to tide me over.

I think it is great AMD is pulling it together but at the same time the hype meter of beating a 10th gen 14nm CPU shouldn't be some highlight real worthy of technological hall of fame prize, it's actually somewhat comical. IT"S A BLOODBATH, lmao

Aren't AMD going to start wrecking Intel in the enterprise? I know the cycle is much longer than you're average pc joe, but I'd think within the next couple of years people will start upgrading large scale infrastructure. The numbers look great for AMD v Intel except for some specific tasks and that's got to be the biggest blow to Intel, being crushed there will be devastating.

The AMD Ryzen 7 5800X is built using just one CCD, which eliminates a lot of latencies and bottlenecks in the multi-core topology. We also saw it boost close to 5 GHz regularly, out of the box, without any overclocking. This one-two-punch combination helped it beat the 5900X in gaming and several other tests.
Seems to be the pick for gaming.
