A game's rasterization has to be pretty damn basic to begin with like Minecraft to benefit much from Raytracing. Game companies aren't even trying for photorealism, not even RDR2, they actually go to great lengths to avoid accurate color fidelity and saturation in order to keep AAA games available for sale in China, which won't let them sell photorealistic shooters. So it strikes me as odd that Nvidia is touting ray tracing so hard when the one thing it's good for, accuracy, isn't even an industry goal for any big studio. And the RT cores even on a 3090 are woefully inadequate, so if the next gen has 5x the RT cores I guess it'll be worth using finally but there really isn't much being missed by having it disabled in most games. It's just comical how overblown Nvidia has made ray tracing, other than Minecraft to me it's virtually useless and easily forgetable.

Can someone summarize? I know Nvidia decided to not send review hardware to HU anymore because they were ignoring Raytracing and focusing on rasterization instead (which seems stupid to me to ignore entire features of cards) but that’s as far as I saw it go. Now gamers are butthurt and Nvidia apologized? Too hard to follow contextless tweets.

They didn't ignore RTing though. They did totally separate shows on it.

Watched 20 minutes of the Linus rant on that WAN stream about all this before I couldn’t take it anymore. It was like meltdown level, Jesus lol.

I mean, what are they ranting about? Just the HUB stuff itself, and about how Nvidia treats reviewers, or is it about something else?

Newegg keeps dropping little batches of 3080's at like 3-4am CST, FYI.

Random, but my buddy was up all night playing Cyberpunk and the RTX Bot discord was going nuts and he got the ASUS TUF

Mainly the fact that the head of global PR for Nvidia sent a mafia-style e-mail to a GPU reviewer saying that they wouldn't be getting any more review units because Nvidia didn't like their editorial decisions, specifically that they didn't review ray tracing favorably enough.

Nvidia trying to demolish the entire reviewing industry and influence it to make their shit come out ahead lol. From someone that gets more contact with companies before and after the reviews they do....Also in the cyperpunk thread, how many posted they turned off raytracting to help framerate?

If you didn't watch Linus' rant on the WAN show, here's a transcript of the original email sent to HUB.

What a stupid email.

From the description of the events here I took NVIDIA's side (but really didn't care), but after reading the email from their "Director of Global PR", I want to donate to whatever group they sent this to.

I don't see how you can send this kind of email out and keep working in the PR business. It not only belies the bullying they're trying but worse it suggests that NVIDIA is giving up on trying to compete with AMD on titles that don't support ray tracing. Which is almost all titles.

How many years has it been since NVidia has been threatened at the VERY top end, for the FPS Performance Crown, in any criteria, rasterization or otherwise?

It's been so long, I can't remember. And now it has finally happened. AMD can post a bar graph in a review that is longer than NVidia's with a bigger FPS number on it. Bigger than what their very latest, very best, most expensive offering can produce. It might only be for a very small handful of games and/or resolutions, but it's happened.

I think they're scared, for the first time in many many years. And now that Lisa Su has got her foot firmly on the gas pedal in both the CPU AND GPU spaces, who knows what's coming down the pipe in the next few years? Intel didn't see AMD coming, and apparently neither did NVidia.

Mega -Corporations can do some shady, and sometimes really stupid shit when their "world domination" is threatened.

MIght be worth it, just remember Ebay + Paypal will eat 12.5% of your take so if you can sell it locally you can probably make decent profit.

Yeah but I can get 6.5% back on my credit card so that offsets the take a bit too.

Post on hardware swap reddit for Local cash, and you'll sell it instantly. You just won't be able to sell for scalper prices like you do on eBay, and if you try, you get crucified.

Sell it on Facebook Marketplace

So I got rolling on the Apple Pay stuff in the Newegg app, but the only Newegg links that open in the App are from Telegraph Stock Drops updates and not Twitter. Is there a setting or something that I'm missing?

So you find the item however you can and toss it in your cart however you can - i dont follow links myself i just have newegg refreshing on something 24/7 - then toss it in cart on whatever device and applepay it on my cell.

the 3070 lines don't have huge resell, especially since you'll be eating tax the $13.25 ship etc so its probably ~$600+ (was $559+$13.25+$40 tax for me) cost, you might clear $650-700 with a lot of bullshit messages to deal with and people who flake. I think most people would take that profit, but just realize the frustration of dealing with retards on offerup, facebook marketplace, etc.

I got alerts on that as well, as well as a 3080 last week from evga (not buying anything for now). So its worth signing up for alerts on everything at evga.com, you get checkout links and have like 24 hours to buy it and its personalized to your account.
