Disaster avoided. Large container ship on fire and sinking. Update now no GPUs on board. Just cosmetics. Disaster avoided lol.

The last dell I had was a core 2 quad, the first intel quad core early 2Ks?. It was a good deal from their business section, I think from memory it was like $750 and it came with a 20" flat screen. I stuck a 5850 in there and it served me for years, and then a few years after for my kids. But those were the old days, when Dell actually shipped decent stuff for a good price.

At work we have tons of Dell engineering CAD workstations and they are decent too. Xenons of different flavors over the years. Lately for the last 3-4 yrs weve been getting Lenovos and no difference really aside the better tech like M.2 drives, better faster ram, etc... Out of the 100s of systems from Dell, each costing $3500, I dont think aside some HD and video card failures here and there, weve had too much trouble with them. Same with the Lenovos. Next up work decided to go with HP, so I guess those will be put under test next.
We use HPs and I prefer them to Dells/Lenovos. When I was at Bell, at one point we got outsourced to IBM, who used Lenovos and OMG they were hunks of junk. This was a lifetime ago but parts/build quality of both the laptops and desktops were trash. I have also worked at HP and while the work experience was trash, the machines are good.

The middle and higher end Dell Latitudes and Precisions are fantastic. The higher end HP workstation laptops are also fantastic. Almost every Lenovo mobile workstation I've seen has been a complete piece of junk. I've never gotten to use a Surface Laptop but they seem okay, but I know they refuse to standardize docks to Thunderbolt 3.

I will say that the the Dell Thunderbolt 3 docks that have full 180W power delivery are pretty nice for the higher end Precision workstations, I just recently had my new job swap out my Dell USB-C dock for the Dell TB3 dock and I'm able to get high res + high refresh rates on multiple 1440p monitors and full power delivery with just a single cable going to the laptop, and the USB-C dropouts have stopped since upgrading to the TB3 connection. I'm pretty sure that Dell is the only OEM that does power delivery to mobile workstations above 90W over Thunderbolt 3, and so if I had to make a recommendation for high end mobile workstations with good dock compatibility I'd have to say Dell.

I agree. They gave me an "upper management" specced Lat, and it's fuckin nice.
What is an upper management specced laptop? It has extra Outlook space and dedicated RAM for Zoom?

loooooool

I prefer thinkpads -

AMD? Driver issues? Unpossible.

Havent had a driver issue since the 6000 series release, and didnt have any with the 5700xt either actually.

My 3090 however had issues on release

I have a 55X0 series Precision workstation and it is pretty beastly. It's got the same aluminum chassis from the XPS line.

Ram/Proc/NvMe all top notch for that brand. Instead of the usual i5 and squirrels to run it.
There's really no functional difference between the i7 U-series or G-series chips and the i5 U-series or G-series mobile chips. All the Latitudes use U-series or G-series chips as far as I'm aware, only the Precisions have H series chips, which are basically slightly downclocked desktop parts with a different cooling solution.

An i5 H-series mobile processor is a lot more powerful than an i7 U-series or G-series mobile processor, for instance. Most people don't realize that. Because of this, a lot of internal IT laptop procurement is done incorrectly.

I mean, sure, why not. Although I'll probably have a higher chance of banging Jiyeon in the ass than getting a 30x0 gpu at a normal price

Haven't scored a video card since February. I admit that I pretty much gave up and stopped looking. The StockDrops app though is pretty promising and scored an overpriced white 6700XT for $950, but thought that was stupid prices for it and so I canceled the order.
