Haven't scored a video card since February. I admit that I pretty much gave up and stopped looking. The StockDrops app though is pretty promising and scored an overpriced white 6700XT for $950, but thought that was stupid prices for it and so I canceled the order.
I mean, its a shortage and I would pay couple hundred dollars more but Fuck paying double and completely forget "winning" a chance to do it and smile. Newegg's Xian ownership can suck it.

People can say "FUCK PAYING DOUBLE!" all they want, but prices aren't going anywhere for years. And chances are, it'll be triple before too long.

Unless you were wise enough to snag a 2080ti, paying 700-$900 for an upgrade is going to be the norm. I was fucking hurting at 1440p on a 1660s. Some games I could pull that off with pretty potatoe settings, but it was a shit show on anything modern.

Scored a 3070 a few weeks back and 3060 this week - Got a 3080/5800x/16gb/1TB Omen Prebuilt, which is a surprisingly sexy pc since the case design is actually attractive - prior to that i had a couple of the asus 3080 PCs as well - Prebuilts are easier to come by and the markup in aftermarket isnt as bad as the GPUs - on a prebuilt i do +500 but on a gpu i go by ebay standards. I know a couple miners in my city who are usually quick to buy my prebuilts and 3080s so i just feed them when i can.

I don't mind the total, a $1000 for a card isn't that big of deal. Its the $950 for a $450 MSRP card that's what I am calling ridiculous.

I know what you're saying...but get out of the mindset of MSRP being the starting point at pricing now and it doesn't sting as much.

I paid like 900 or so for an RX 6800....steal now!

I had a chance to get a 3070 for $800 a while back and said fuck that. Now they are like $1400-$1600. Its nuts! $500-$600 card with a $1K markup lol.

But I'm not. I have a 2080ti and a 1080ti and consoles and while I would pay $300+ for a card, I would pay a $1000ish for 6800xt or 3080, I will either rent a Stellar bot for myself or just wait. If I do rent a bot and get a shitload of cards accidently, I would sell them here for exactly what I would pay for them. That was my idea upthread, to buy someone a Stellar license and let them go wild to get us a in and let someone get an entrepreneurial start.

I bought it for a month to fuck with - just buying it isnt enough tho, need proxies, captcha shit - its a whole new world - but if i can get it running right it will be worth it for sure.

And I don't think prices will be where they are for years; there will be a break somewhere along the way that brings them back down from where they are now, $2k plus. We'll see when the LHC cards get here if that doesn't do something to the market but otherwise I will just A) wait B) rent and learn a bot C) trade an extra PS5 and some cash for one.

Xexx Xexx , Edit: what am I telling you for? You assuredly could write me chapter and verse on all of this.

I think they will. The longer this goes on the easier it is for people to accept as "normal". Only way they'll come down is a huge economic depression, which is very possible, but I think that's further out than prices normalizing.

I don't really regret paying $900 for my 6700XT, but there is no fucking chance I would have if I was sitting on a 2080 even, not to mention a 2080ti. The funny thing to me though, with people bitching about the prices, is that a 3070 and 6700XT are roughly equivalent cards to a 2080ti and yet the 2080 ti msrped for $1000. So, even at inflated prices, they're still a slightly better deal. And you can sometimes find 3070s in the 700-$800 range.

Seriously doubt most people are ever going to accept these prices as "normal". Go look at the most commonly used cards on Steam's list. Top card is a friggin 1060. The top 5 are all 50's and 60's. The 2080 variants are all under 1% each, and sitting just on top of them? Integrated Intel graphics. The people who are both willing and able to spend that kind of money on a video card are a minority. The industry can't sustain itself by only selling to those people. This hasn't been a huge impact yet thanks to the stimulus checks, but unless the government wants to keep makin it rain, it will eventually.

You mean little Timmy isn’t dropping $3600 on a prebuilt so he can have a 3080?

Stimulus checks totally fucked the economy, lol. Video cards are one example of a thousand.

The mutoids of the shoe world have accepted it for almost a decade now. The scalpers/resellers are absolutely insidious in the shoe world and its pretty much taken hold in the gpu/cpu world. This is what we are dealing with;

Low supply, high demand, high price ; I'm no clever business man, but if that's not 3 green flags for companies to create their GPU I don't know what they are waiting. It would be refreshing to have a 3rd competitors.

There's a pretty big difference between GPUs and shoes. Only complete fucking morons pay stupid prices for a particular brand of shoe. If you're a normal (non-crazy) person, you have literally tons of affordable alternatives.

Not possible.

First problem is the patents locked up by AMD and Nvidia. Second problem is producing a GPU architecture cost billions of dollars. Third problem is you need the absolute smartest people in the world to develop a GPU.

Intel is trying to make a GPU, but isnt having much success.

Of course they are morons for paying $1000+ for shoes, but the dynamic is the same. The problem isnt supply from AMD/Nvidia, but is supply due to scalpers buying up whats available. You can go onto any reseller platform and find endless cards ready to buy.
