My new system has hard locked twice in the past few days, including today, had to shut the system off / on the first time. Both times it has happened while watching a video on YouTube using Brave browser, and with my old system, the Brave browser would at time lock a tab that had Twitch running. So I thought it was something with Brave, but maybe not. When it happened today I waited a bit and it eventually went to the windows blue screen, with an error: DPC_Watchdog. I didn't see the full error code, so I looked up the DPC Watchdog part, found a program that reads the minidump file. Nothing made sense to me, but at the end of the debugging, it showed the cause as likely being an nvidia driver (nlvdmkm or something). The driver for my 5070ti is the most current, and the one which was installed when I got the system. Hasn't locked up while gaming, and I highly doubt any type of overheating. Going to use Chrome for the next few days to see if it happens again.

If anyone has similar issues with their 50-series, let me know.

Are you using an Intel processor? I had the same type of problem last year and the issue ended up being the Intel CPU.

Their drivers have been terrible this cycle. Uninstall the current driver and try 566.36.

AMD.

McQueen McQueen I heard the same, but are you using the 566.36 driver with a 50 series? Given the release date of that driver, it probably doesn't have support for some of the 50-series features?

I need a new card as I'm currntly on a backup card. I thought about a pre built system but I'm hard headed and instead of waiting for something to come down in price as no microcenter is close by. I realise that's a loser move and probably waiting forever but I'm not a cutting edge gamer.

I’m still using a 30 series and haven’t had any weird issues. Trying the 566.36 driver is just nVidia’s boilerplate response to weird 50 series issues.

I am falling in love with PC Gaming all over again. Hooked this up to my 65" and it was so fucking cool - Cyberpunk with everything max at 4k - DLSS Quality - holy shit. DESTROYS PS5 Pro. And now I do not have to wait or hope for some bullshit console patch. Seriously why - just change all your PC settings instantly on the upgrade and wham - 40% higher quality and frames with Path Tracing and Ray Tracing. Free online, discord chat, and can always just plug it into the home theater for a weekend if I want. Loaded up RDR2 - 125 FPS at 4k everything max'd with Game HDR. Sweet Jesus - I'll be replaying that now.

So now I have one more thing I am looking at. Upgrading my 27" 2k IPS LG to this:

Thoughts on that bad boy?
Its a good monitor but all the OLED monitors in general are nowhere near as bright as TVs, FYI. It doesn't bother me that much but it is noticeable.

I posted the recent steam hardware survey in the desktop thread in the tech forum. Definitely don't need to spend $1k+ if you don't want to. The reviews of the 5060 versions of this generation should drop later today. If supply on those is strong, it may drive down the price of remaining 4060 stock so you might be able to snag a deal on one of those then.

Its a little pricey for the 43" version but I work and game on mine; not like art work but sit on Teams calls for hours and do PPT/XLS/DOC files and outlook. I wouldn't want to subject an OLED to that. Otherwise, whatever 43/48" LG OLED this current year gen is up to: G4? They are amazing but I am super burn in shy.

I think these Sony TVs I use as monitors I use currently are 8 years old now? Got them right after Harvey. I got an OLED but let me daughter use it, since the 48 was too big for my desk with the PS5 on it. I have since migrated the PS5 off to a different desk with my Mac Mini but 43 for me is the way to go for a desktop monitor. 32" is just too small after years of 40"+ and PC monitors just can't seem to make the jump up to that next size.

Super easy to find REALLY big gaming TVs at great prices. I think Walmart has the Sony 75" X85K on sale right now for $700? What a steal. As more and more of them are being sold, that is where the market sweet spot is and prices are coming down. A thousand years ago, I got the first reasonably priced (3 grand) 70" 1080p LCD TV, a Sharp, at Fry's (actually 2012 but it seems like a lifetime ago) <ME3!>. After it survived Harvey it is going to stay until the proverbial wheels fall off.

I bought a 43' Asus XG438QR last year for a nice 700 USD (usually they are around 1K) but went back to my 34' Asus after a week. The 43' was too large on a desktop with me sitting directly in front of it on my chair. Especially gaming I felt like front now tennis court not having everything in sight without turning my head. Was really, really annyoing an exhausting also my eye sight is not what it used to be and I struggled with small fonts in 4K but 43' in 1440p was also very shitty looking.

Maybe, we'll see. Using a 3060TI now, was hoping for more of a jump. Especially if it's very expensive. Have the feeling it's just going to be sit on it a while and just upgrade and swallow how much it cost eventually.

Yeah don't bother going to a 4060 then. Wait for the 5060 reviews later today and decide if the numbers on that are worth it to you. A lot will depend on how the supply situation on those cards is going to turn out, might be worth the upgrade at $300 but not at $450.

After watching that I think I will stay in "wait" camp. The card I have is playing the games I play and I rarely go all out on new AAA games so I'll just wait, now prices will probably skyrocket but we will see. I've thought abut used but I don't know, I'm not tha trusting at all.
