Guess I have a couple of scripts blocked.

This was a power plant accident after an outage at Jeffrey Energy Center.

AFAIK, a PRV that they had rebuilt blew open, venting superheated steam as they were bringing that unit online. The steam is usually piped away, but the PRV and flange/piping turned into shrapnel.

They were losing a lot of pressure, so they sent 2 dudes up an elevator to see what the issue was. Those 2 guys were basically cooked inside that elevator when the door opened.

Is everyone else envying Hatorade Hatorade for this part of his journey and the first feelings of satisfaction of 'I fucking did that!' or just me?
Good looking work bro, keep it up!

It is also the problem solving, conduit needed a 90 with a 4 inch kick to line up to the pillar/box. Had to get a rod down the top to pull the main wire through, then tie the two bottom outlets together with just enough wire because too much and the box is overloaded all while doing the 100 little things just right. When it all comes together it is like the perfect golf swing, just feels satisfying.

It was going so well…blew this up today. Magnets are fucked on the 4 on the right. The part is like $850-1300 depends on exactly what this one is.
In my defense I only did what the journeyman told me to do but I knew he was cutting corners trying to quickly hunt down a short. I turned the power on and boom! Felt the force through the panel door and scared the fuck out of everyone in the building, shit was loud.

Lighting contactor, or something else?

What was his plan with finding what was shorted? Disconnecting loads and then energizing to see what holds? Looks like 14, 18 & 22 may have been disconnected and capped off.

This makes me want to ask a lot of questions, LOL

Yeah bunch of light poles in a metal storage area. The plan seemed was sound, we found the purple wire that caused the short, wanted to get power to the pole to make sure it wasn’t burnt out. Only one brown wire going down so that had to be it right?… wrong. I didn’t ask questions and he didn’t trace it and probably connected hot to a neutral. Cables are under concrete. Brown purple yellow was used but not how he thought? Honestly I am not sure my self and dude was having early signs of heat stroke at the time.

So yeah instead of being sure we just connected the wire and flipped the switch.

You're in Texas, right?

No idea how the individual circuits are run, or how old it all is. Top of the contacts almost seemed like they're phased for 3-phase (brown, purple, yellow?), but I'm not familiar with BPY. BOY would make sense to me, instead. I'm honestly not sure if I've ever seen BPY.

Thing is, if the loads fed through that conduit that are either 3-phase, or are phase to phase loads (like 480 L1 to L2, etc), then it will sorta backfeed and still short out on any load that's tied to that purple downstream. At least that's my first guess...?

I'm not convinced that there ARE any neutrals there, TBH.

Deathwing Deathwing I believe this is their equivalent of testing in production.

I'm with Erronius Erronius on this. I also assume Brown, Purple, Yellow is 480V, Single or 3 phase lighting without a neutral (that typically is Grey or White). Don't fret about blowing something up. Use this as a lesson since you already did it: ELECTRICITY IS COLORBLIND! I have my field lineman's pliers still, they are burnt on the tops, every one of those burns were from green wires that were used as a hot wire since the original 'electrician' was a lazy cheating fuck. I learned quick to treat every wire as hot until a tester said it was dead.

Also if you get canned over a mistake for doing something that you were told to do, fuck them, you don't want to work for that company anyway. Honestly since you have a heartbeat and show up every day I doubt they would with this job market.

Appreciate it, nah my boss is cool. I told him whats up and he said…whelp that sucks…go home because I can’t get that part until Monday.

The no neutral makes more sense because the leds have four lights on two circuits and only half are on now that half the panel isn’t working. Probably put 240 amps through a 120 circuit or more.

When you get it resolved please post what the cause/fix was.
