I have heard that this series is somewhat infamous for a beating/rape done against the protagonist by one of the popular male characters. Curious if they will leave something like that out to avoid the feminist shitstorm.

Probably not, given the English captain makes maybe fifteen seconds of small talk before going for the rape in the first episode.

Besides, if any feminists are not already boycotting them for spartacus then they are probably not easily outraged.

wife read this book and is all crazy like for this shit...my question.. is it any good ?
it is soft porn every now and then, but the story is pretty good, I read all 7 or so books.

Excessive violence is not that uncommon in the books either, so there will be some good parts for you men too.

wait she gets naked??? thats pretty important info not in the OP
She'll get hardcore gangbang raped in a later book.

In the first book, after they're married, she fucks up and gets captured, which makes Jamie and some of his clansmen to rescue her, risking their lives. Because she fucked up, everyone expects her to receive corporal punishment from her husband, and eventually that happens. There's no him raping her.

What's the titty:chickflick ration in this?

Wife reads the books, so it'll be "on" regardless. Just curious if I should pay.. say.. 20% attention.. or are we talking like 40% attention?

The thing is after the second book, Gabaldon did a 20 year jump. So either they just ignore this so they can keep using the current cast or you'll have old people sex for the rest of the series. But then, her daughter shows up, which should be cast with Karen Gillan. On the other hand, Gabaldon never described her sex life

Saw the first episode it was.......Okay .. Wife of course loved it ran out bought the books and is reading that shit.. So she is gonna know what is going on and I am forced to watch it.. I hope it gets better ...
Exact situation here, word for word haha. Guess she is a bit weirded out after some dude getting raped near the end of the first book, plus she doesn't like how the second book started and she's taking like a week off now. She still made me watch the show, though.

I'm amazed at how many women are obsessed with this.

I'm finding it entertaining for the first 2 episodes. BTTF series are my favorite movies though, so I'm kind of a sucker for time travel. I can't figure out if this will end up being time travel'y enough for me though. And wtf Quin? You should know better than to post book spoilers.

1:30 more or less, so more than 10% attention would probably be wasted ;p

It's ok, and it has tits, I am a little annoyed at the stupidity of the plot though, the chick doesn't know shit about anything and has 200 years of linguistic drift, so the idea of her 'fooling' anyone else there is ludicrous.

Show/story is far too much chick flick for me, but alas you have to pick and choose your battles and the wife is obsessed with the books so no way I'm not watching this with her.

But she isn't "fooling" anyone. Thats what the whole dinner scene was about, why was she using the english pronunciation of her french maiden name if she is from France; and no one there trusts her.

I just wanted to revisit this thread. This was the first episode I didn't watch, because I'd rather play Archeage. When I was explaining to my wife why I stopped caring, it really came down to two words.

Wasted potential.

I don't understand this show. Leave it to a female author to ruintime travel. Seriously, there's absolutely nothing that happens in this show wheretime travelis even relevant to the story. You could just make it about some English woman in the 18th century who is captured by some Scots, and it'd play exactly the same. She does nothing with her knowledge of the future to do...anything. My wife's response was that, "well, there's a wedding." Oh great, a fucking wedding. Wonderful. Worse, it's essentially a woman who gets married while still married to her husband. And based on the amount of sex scenes I heard while playing Archeage, she cheats without remorse.

This show is awful.

Gonna go out on a limb but this show wasn't made for Rerolled audience. I've caught a few episodes while the wife is watching and it's exactly what it's advertised, a show made for women with a slight sci-fi angle.

Its not even sci-fi. The mechanism of time travel is some witches shit in some rocks. I don't know if the exact mechanism is ever revealed, but even so, who cares? Whats science-y about this at all? It's a goddamn romance novel.

I don't know what you don't like about this, it's awesome. Is it not violent enough for you? Too much focus on characters? Too much talking? Too much focus on a female character? I didn't watch the latest episode yet, but I thought the one before that, taking place almost exclusively just in the dining room, was brilliant.

You happen to be completely wrong about this.

She already used her advanced knowledge of medicine to cure quite a number of people, such as the boy the priest wanted to exorcise. She can't do much more than that, yet
but once Jamie trusts her enough for her to tell him the truth, they'll attempt to prevent the Jacobite rising through various means like cutting the funding from the French through intrigue in Paris, which the entire second book is about. It ends with them failing, because you can't alter time on a major scale in this instance of time travelling, but they will keep trying.
