I hope I can find some time around the Legion launch to play some of season 2. I really enjoy the changes they've put in and hope it gives a bit more of a positive experience and hopefully a bump in popularity.

Been playing a bit each night Quick Play (which is still awful) to learn some heroes I never played in the past. I probably still enjoy playing Mcree the most but at some point I just need to accept my aim is mediocre at best. Anyway, did D.Va full time last night and had an absolute blast. Really different experience than the straight dps characters I was playing prior. My only problem is I really don't know yet how much I'm positively impacting my team. It feels like I am, and she seems easy to medal with, but I suppose it'll take season 2 dropping and actually getting enough games in to judge win % before I can say for sure.

Next on the list Zen. If I can get comfortable with D.Va and Zen during this offseason break here I go into season 2 with a much more complete toolkit.

Anyone else seeing just a shit ton of god awful Ana players right now? Maybe those are just dudes doing the same thing I'm doing trying to learn a new hero.

Ana is not an easy support to use. Her sniper stuff helps but she tends to get counter dueled hard by other snipers and her healing is decent but she has to work a lot harder to keep people healed than others do. You have lucio who just aoe heals everything, mercy who has a channeled heal but easy to lock on and stay locked once there, zen who just targets you once and applies buff or ana who has to keep repeatedly shooting rapidly bouncing evading targets vainly trying to heal them from being ganked. Her grenade heal helps but honestly I have seen that thrown right on target and not seem to apply the buff not sure if its bugged or just weird.

Her best point is if you are not worried to much about healing she is one of the higher damage support at very long range which is nice but tends to get murdered by widow/hanzo in that role.

Oh yeah. I totally recognize she has a high skill cap. I just wonder why, given that, do awful players insist on playing her? That doesn't stop them from playing Genji either though I guess.

I think its mostly people trying to play her more to learn how to get better with them. I keep trying anna and every time I do I realize I would be contributing a ton more with literally any of the other supports.

Zenyatta is incredible fun to play if you're good at aiming. The guy fucking shreds heroes.

I did get pretty good with Tracer recently, but I'm not at my Genji-level yet. I may still play Genji but I need to test him a bit more.

That triple jump nerf just ruins everything you know about traversing levels and escapes.

I find Zenyatta's ability popups to be too distracting :(

Trying to aim at some one and this big red box pops up, then a blue one, then a red one. FUCK.

Zenyatta makes me question why anna was made in the first place. Want a support hero with low mobility and high damage and ability to shred folks from extreme range while being able to heal zen is just head and shoulders above anna. I could see her as the high damage support/sniper if zen did not obliterate her in damage as well as healing.

I played a good bit of soldier yesterday and I really like the change to his recoil. Makes burst firing a lot more effecient and thus more effective. This coming from someone who played a lot of soldier before the last little nerf and then after. Good improvement I feel.

I tried Ana a few times and every time I kept thinking "why would I choose her over another hero?"

She just doesn't feel fully fleshed out to me.

I love playing Ana but usually as a 2ndary healer and primarily as an offensive healer. Sleep dart and her Ult allow you to break through a lot of defenses. I especially like getting Sleep dart on a Bastion or an Ulting Genji.

Exactly. She does nothing that the other support heroes don't do better. Her main unique thing is sleep but that is only really useful on a premade team who knows to not shoot the person napping. As is sleep instantly gets undone so it winds up being similar duration stun to mcree. Why stun when you can debuff with zenyatta and blow your target up in a split second.

She just has nothing that really makes her stand out. Her ult is probably her best power but still is not as strong as mercy and lucio/zenata ults are both even more poweful in some ways because they can effect your entire team.

Ana is the healer for healers who don't want to be passive/braindead the entire game. You actually have to LoS people to heal them and can do decent damage if your team isn't being destroyed. Zenyatta is similar in that he can heal a single target pretty well, but can't heal multiple people quickly/fully without using his Ult. In most cases you're using that Ult to counter another Ult anyways. Some of the better comp's I've played with had Ana/Zen instead of Zen/Lucio. A lot of debuffing/damage to be put out quickly. Not too mention that Reinhardt/Ana Ult are only really stopped by another Ana/Reinhardt Ult, hugging Zen Ult, or being slept.

As it is Mercy sucks because it's mainly you trying to LoS the enemy while healing people and occasionally flying away from an enemy or to a flanker that needs heals. Then you sit on the rez all game until 2+ people die unless you have a badass tank or something worth the single rez. Lucio is just skate around and try to do low-end DPS while not being headshot by shit.

Let's not forget how fucking amazing the Ana grenade is offensively, either. Throw it on the tank. Bye bye tank. Especially devastating with the Grav Bomb. Watching a Zen pop his Ult too late on 4 people that are all purple'd and watch them die in front of him. Feels real nice.

And for funsies:

The problem with anna is she has to work three times as hard and the pay off is not there. Her debuff grenade on an enemy tank melts that tank but so does zenyatta's debuff and he is not giving up his big heal to debuff he can do both at the same time.

Lucio may not do the damage of ana but he has far greater manuverability and between his aoe heals and aoe ult he more consistently supports his entire team effectively even for low skilled players. It is not uncommon when I am playing lucio to do tripple or more the healing of anna.

Mercy heals even more although mercy basically gives up doing damage to be a healer but she does that role very effectively.

anna and zenyatta both fit around the same role long range low mobility healer/debuffers. In that role zenyatta is simply better he hits harder his heal is easier to use effectively and he can heal and debuff at the same time. I guess technically anna could as well but she would have to get super lucky to get friendly and enemy target close enough for the grenade to hit both.

It isn't that she can't do the job its just that the other options can do any job she can do better.

For Ana to be a good hero you really have to have a Rein that can effectively use the Nano Boost. If you don't have that, you should be playing Zenyatta. If you have that Rein though, you can crush noobs alld ay

Ana's single target healing is greater than Mercy's beam (in the non PTR iteration, at least). Also, she can LITERALLY get her Ult, possibly the most powerful Ult in game, every 60 seconds by just healing.

Until three games in a row you ult reinhardt and he sits there shielding for the entire duration of the buff and never tries to smash anybody. Ana works as well as she can on a premade team who works together and is coordinated. But even for that it is a lot of work for gains that are pretty minimal compared to the alternatives.
