Leave it to Gladiators and Surefour to be the first to play Symmetra in OWL. :)

He was trying to get the ramp up with Symmetra, but it doesn't ramp up fast enough sadly. He finally got it when he popped the shield ult on the first point.

I think the real problem with GOATS is overlapping healing. I mean change it so you can only have 1 heal on you at a time and it goes away and doesn't even effect like 99% of casual matches.

Roar got pooped on. If he can't pick up his play on Rein, it is going to be a long season for LAG.

Also LAG should have ran Sombra once it got to OT. You just need to win one team and EMP gives you a great chance at doing that.

First day of season 2 did well think. 200K+ on the main broadcast plus another 40K on the other language broadcast.

No big surprise, GOATS on both sides most of the time. I think this is what stage 1 will be like since they won't patch during stages.

It's going to be a repeat of season 1 where Dive was played on offense and defense on every single map. It will get boring real fast.

That said, I still enjoy the quality and level of play that OWL brings. The coordination and teamwork is just so fun to watch.

There was a play where D'va used her ultimate and Winston and Zarya would have been caught by it, Winston already having used his bubble, and Zarya having used her personal bubble already. Then Zarya bubbled Winston, and hid behind him to avoid the blast. It's fast thinking and execution, and good communication to tell Winston to not move.

All in all, it was still enjoyable even with GOATS, just boring that it's all there is.

Yea you've got balance issues when team A doubles the damage of team B and still loses 0 to 99 on control.

You have to wonder how they get themselves out of the corner they are in and changing the meta. Do they nerf Lucio? Brigitte isn't the cause of GOATS anymore. It's pretty much Lucio that enables the composition. GOATS is actually a pretty versatile team composition with Lucio really being the only must. The experimentation with bans from the community scrims showed you can easily swap tanks and supports out, but Lucio was the only constant.

Even if the meta switches from GOATS it is going to go to directly Double/Triple Sniper which was a suck ass meta before. They are screwed either way.

Oh look, more goats vs goats.

I think the viewer was for the World Cup only? I havent seen anything about it being available for the actual league yet. Hopefully it will be eventually, it was pretty neat.

Viewer is up if you have access pass, it has been acting a little buggy. I just turned it off to finish this Defiant outlaw match

I'm glad to see Dafran proving a ton of people wrong that he wouldn't work in OWL mainly /r/cow. He is a really amazing player.

So first week is over. I'm happy OWL is back as I enjoy it quite a bit.

It seems to have done well with viewership around 200K for the 5 days for the 6+ hours it was on.

I didn't watch all of it, maybe 8-10 games, and not necessary all matches. The level of coordination these teams have is amazing, and it's the part I enjoy the most.

Obviously there was too much GOATS, but you could see that a lot of teams don't want to play it, they tried something else but often had to fall back to it because it's so reliable.

From what I saw, the new teams seems to be competitive, I was afraid they would not be since most of the talent was already in existing team, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I think the season will be fun to watch with a lot of teams being very close to each other.

Will the Shanghai Dragons win a game this season after being 0-40 last year, and starting 0-2 this year. :)

I hope they fix GOATS for stage 2. It wouldn't take much really as teams don't want to play it. They'd switch fast the moment other stuff is as competitive.

Being a Georgia resident Im accustomed to our sporting teams being dogshit for the most part (except for our soccer team, which is all sorts of weird to say and probably not to be repeated), but I was pleasantly surprised by the Atlanta Reign. So long as Dafran can keep his head on straight they should do ok. Doubt they're gonna be a stage winner but hopefully in the top half of the table at least.

I echo your sentiment about GOATs though. It'll be interesting to see how viewership retention is as this first stage goes by. People were excited it was back and tuning in this weekend, but by week three or four of the same shit game after game, match after match for hours ad nauseam, it's gonna get old fast.

I really enjoyed the Philly vs. Atlanta match was legitimately exciting for me coming down the wire. I watched a decent number of matches, but I'm only committed to watching every Fusion game. I think overall the new teams have been impressive and should be a competitive season.

They really needs to be a map selector or map preference in this game. I never want to play on a 2CP map again and the new Paris map is as equally as frustrating as all the other 2CP maps especially the second point. The defense spawn is so close to point B. It's so fucking dumb. Whatever retard that thinks 2CP maps are fun at Blizzard should have been part of the layoffs that happened a week or so ago.

I kind of wonder how many people are actually "watching" these games. When i was playing with my friends the other night 3 of 5 told me they had various accounts using another screen to just hopefully get some team skins. You essentially get them at random for watching or something? Anyways i don't think any of them actually "watched" the games. Regardless, they did seem to actually improve some of the viewing experience from the start of season 1 to the end. But some of the issues are buried so deep in the core of the game/genre i don't think you can resolve them. Do they still have a million games scheduled this season?

Don't change the META simply with thoughts of the 1% for one..... For example i'd guess anything below roughly GM or close will often be using Brig as the heart of the team and doing fine. I had a match with her the other day in a goats comp i had 9.9k armour given 16k healing ect.. I have no doubt that at some point people will have the coordination/skill to target/kill her and she won't be great if your an OWL level dude. But the vast majority of players will not encounter this regularly enough. It's like how different strategies work in lower levels of football don't work in the NFL, or really the same an be said or any sport,. Doesn't make those strategies less good or worthy.

Maybe they should do like other sports and have different rules/stats for OWL and the actual game everyone else is playing? It's a really tough call i don't know how you resolve this issue. GOATS all day is not at all fun comp to watch, But i think Double sniper/dive was even worse.

People need to realize that no one will ever be happy with any meta, short of some impossible utopia where every hero is perfectly balanced for every possible situation. No one liked multiples of the same hero. No one liked quad tank. No one liked dive. No one liked double sniper. No one liked GOATS. And I’m sure no one will end up liking the alternative dps comps we saw last week in response to GOATS in OWL. Whatever they rebalance the next meta in to - people will take issue with that as well.

Blizzard will never make a separate rule set for OWL. I’d imagine they want to maintain the facade that the average ladder player is experiencing the same game that OWL pros do.

Essentially the average high school basketball or football player is playing the same game as the NBA or NFL players.

Except Zone Defenses are legal in basketball, in both you can generally be more physical/handsy then in the pros. A few differences in football like catch rules and no unlimited defensive pass interference penalties. Most are not bothered by this. It's expected players will adjust when they get to the pros if they are actually that good. The essential game is still the same, the rules have just been altered a bit to make the pros more balanced/entertaining.
