It makes CGI'd things look more "real". According to the makers of the last Godzilla remake thing at least, think that's where I heard that.

dramatic lighting. wet skin. shiny. definitely a cheap way to make things more dynamic.

I mean, look at Batman. every thing is cooler at night there. Batman walking around in the daytime just looks like a schmuck.

Not at all, the buildings and cities are super detailed. they spent a lot of money on this.

I doubt it was the reason but maybe the giant fucks only like attacking at night and when it is raining since they came from a place that was constantly dark and wet.

How magical it was to your young brain? Then remember when a few years later, you saw them again, but this time you were older, and wiser, and you saw how truly cheesy those movies and their special effects were. How the magic had gone. You couldn't believe that you'd fallen for that pap. But fall you did.

Pacific Rim is your childhood memory of how great those films were, how much they filled you with wonder. It brings the magic back.

I had discounted this movie and was pretty determined not to see it, 100% based upon my Transformer movie hate... my mind has been changed. In GdT I trust.

Honestly I feel like I'm going to go see it, get a lot of over the top action with some crazy big destruction between monsters and giant robots...and while I'll likely enjoy it for what it is, in the end I'm betting I still think about this movie and make that face I made when I first heard the premise. It just sounds silly as fuck.
