Realism nitpickers will be overjoyed* to find that the boat as a weapon scene is not even the third most outrageous abuse of the laws of physics in the movie 8)

* Let's face it, if you are a realism nitpicker watching this movie you are only doing it so you can bitch about it afterwards ! ;p
No one cares about Realism. Do you think The Dark Knight was, at all, realistic? How about the Avengers when Black Widow grabbed the hovercraft zipping along at 100 MPH and her arms didn't just rip off? Nope. Not one fuck was given. People only care about internal consistency. Which is why those shots were annoying--it wasn't the fact that they used the tanker (Hell, I loved that), it was the fact that the tanker was effective and yet they don't go out there with massive weapons. (In other words, if a tanker hit was good...why don't they make a tanker sized weapon that's actually designed to be used?)...I wasn't disappointed, really, until I started seeing more previews with no weapons.

That being said, since you saw it...do theyhaveweapons? And is the reason they grabbed the tanker because they lost the weapon at some point?

Realism would make a movie like this boring IMO. I love goofy fucking science and physics in movies about fucking shit up. For an example I love Independence Day, for me the stupidity of some of it was what made it so much fun.

Yeah, I agree. Realism would be dumb--it's like I mentioned earlier. Realistically, armies of drones with anti-tank weapons, using swarm tactics would probably be more effective...but who the hell would want to see that?

The only thing I ever look for in a movie is some kind of internal logic in the movie itself. If in this universe 250k ton giant robots can do back flips? Well, then that'sawesome. But if in the universe, we see weapons like tankers are effective, then I really expect to see some giant robot sized sledge hammers or two handed swords.

Really, really liked the movie. Everything about it really - there was some over the top cheesy parts, but they were relatively well done - nothing too off-putting. After seeing this, I REALLY wish Del Toro was doing the Hobbit movies - think he would've knocked it out of the park. Girlfriend also enjoyed it. First movie in a while I might actually see twice before it comes out on Blu Ray.

Nitpicking is fun. I generally nitpick movies I liked harder than movies I didn't like.

WASHINGTON?The U.S. stock market soared to record highs Thursday with the Dow industrial average rallying 144 points after Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke?s reassuring remarks that the gigantic monsters and robots in the summer blockbuster Pacific Rim looked ?super fucking cool.? ?I?m quite optimistic that for the foreseeable future, no other movie will even come close to topping the killer fucking battle scenes between those badass robots and crazy sea monster things,? said Bernanke, who guaranteed that investors would not be wasting their money on the upcoming Guillermo del Toro action film, claiming that the awesome CGI effects were totally worth paying ?three extra measly bucks to see it in 3D.? ?Have you seen the Hellboy movies? That guy comes up with totally crazy creatures. And you actually get to see goddamn robots, unlike those lame-ass Transformers movies. So much shit gets destroyed. Just a great popcorn flick.? At press time, Wall Street continued to have unprecedented gains after Bernanke announced that the film?s star, Charlie Hunnam, ?has ?Next Big Thing? written all over him.?

I'm starting to wonder if the acting is bad on purpose. To sort of emulate the japanese monster/mech movies of yore. Even the bad accents.

If so, it's fucking genius.

Sad I don't get to see this until maybe tomorrow.

Seeing this tomorrow night in IMAX 3D. Fucking pumped. I don't give a shit if the plot is terrible. I want enough CGI action to make up for all three shitty Transformer movies.

Spoiler for some minor plot points

All the Jaegers have both short range and melee weapons, they just work on anime logic about why you'd save your weapons as 'finishers'.

The tanker was kind of special circumstances because it was a new type of Kaiju that had a long mace like tail and acid spit which had already proven to be devastating - the tanker was a way to get a bit more range. Also it looked pretty awesome having the Jaeger drag it down the street.

You know those thrillers where you see a mysterious, black glove hand coming from behind a corner, putting ipecac or arsenic in people's drinks? And not until the end of the movie do we know who was wearing the glove? Someone.or someTHING..is doing that right now with PACIFIC RIM, Guillermo del Toro's giant robots vs giant monsters movie which opens on July 12th.
Someone's trying to kill it, and Variety are being the loyal troops for them.

Saw it in IMAX 3D (the real kind) at a special screening)

I have one GIANT complaint about this movie and it is this. This movie will be very hard to watch due to the massive erection you will have during it obscuring your vision. This movie is fan-fucking-tastic. I grew up on loving Godzilla movies and Robotech and it paid homage to it while bringing it all into modern times. The CGI was absurdly good, you could see exactly what was going on (unlike Transformers), and it really makes you embrace the scale of the fighting going on in the movie.

I won't spoil shit about this, if you were excited to see this you will not be disappointed in the least. If you thought it looked neat you will love this so much you will go home and want to watch the old Japanese monster movies, just to spot references and homages you just saw.

Plat and acting? Didn't care. The plot is giant fucking robots beating the shit out of giant fucking monsters. There is your plot now go see it on the biggest screen you can with the loudest sound system you can and enjoy feeling like you are a kid again. I am going back again this weekend.

edit. Trailers didn't spoil shit, so so so much good stuff was not in them

I went in expecting Citizen Kane, but instead I got jizz in my pants from the groin throbbing monster/robot action and the lack of intelligent bed talk.

Scale thing of mechs/comic characters etc that includes Gypsy Danger.

Though they seem to have included the smallest possible version of Galactus, which annoys me. I guess no point really including him since he changes size at will, still though...30m version is baby starved Galactus!

not really. He can change size freely, yes, infact he often appears Celestial size during many cosmic battles (like in Thanos Imperative) but 25/30m is his normal size. He becomes smaller only when extremely weak
