The problem is that's what they came up with for a promotional video. UI ugly and blocking half the screen. Purchased assets with terrible animations. All sorts of signs underlying mechanics aren't in place, like the fucking mob walking right through a player as they're 'looting' the chest (agro mechanics? Pathing/clipping?). It was supposed to be a show-the-polish-only type of video, and apparently they're admitting those are the best, most polished, most theatrical shots they've got?
It comes down the continuing issue of making bad decisions, being out of touch, and just not seeming to get it. Despite all geeks having grand ideas about DnD and MMOs and there being an underlying respect for having geeky dreams.... Brad has become the geek other geeks think is lame and embarrassing. I mean, you talked about DnD for months in the cafeteria, and now Brad comes along and is like "look what I drawed!" and you realize in that moment you were just a bunch of dumb geeks sitting around pretending you had a shot at something cool. And now not even talking about stuff is fun anymore, because there's always that one guy that takes it way too seriously, starts actually doing something, and it proves to be so shitty it becomes little more than a reality check.
Brad is good at sitting around the cafeteria shooting the shit. And I'm pretty sure that 'I have an idea' helped EQ become what it was, but he's got no discernible sense or talent beyond that, and now doesn't have a team of people to do things for him. And this is what we get. Shit.
Not to mention, it's the same mistake he made with Vanguard. Brad should be refining and showing off mechanics and function and ideas and all the skeletal guts. But, instead, it's like a dose of history. While Blizzard took the approach to nail the mechanics and functions, and build a world around it, Brad took the approach with Vanguard to build a huge world and hope to build function and mechanics into it later (putting off having to prove his ideas would work or mattered or would help build a solid game). But, at least the years of pointless building of Vanguard art assets were original?
