So you're saying that you are comparing graphics from 1999 to graphics bought from a unity store in 2016...
You missed my point.

No, the point went over your head. A prototype is not indicative of final game quality. Even Blizzard and World of WarCraft, the definitive best developer and game in the genre had a prototype that looked like complete shit.

^^I wasn't comparing the graphics. I was just stating that a prototypes often look like shit (they're supposed to) and isn't indicative of final product.

Do you have Downs?
Triggered because you thought I was bashing WoW. Quite the contrary. Please head back to the WoW thread you big old fanboy you. ;)

Pretty sure you do have Downs.

I'm excited for Pantheon. Really excited.

I suck at art. I can make the things Pantheon has shown so far because it literally takes zero skill and a wallet. Also things have advanced since 1999. Like a fucking preschooler with an etch a sketch can make better graphics then the initial WoW alpha. I didn't miss your point.

This is the most valid point at this time. If Brad is making this amazing game with the amazing Unity engine, then shouldn't all of the shit he's shown so far be extremely easy to pull off? Shouldn't most of what he's shown be really quickly created? The Carnage stream should give some better ideas but someone mentioned earlier that even 4-5 hours of group-based content is fairly easy to create especially with Unity. Is the alpha still set for the end of 2017? Die-hards, is this correct? I usually only come here for lawls but have to contribute occasionally. Zyyz, that was some solid trolling earlier. Not Trump level but who can match the master?

This is one of the worst posts I have seen on this forum and that is really saying something.

Also if it takes zero skill and wallet and you can make anything, then go and recreate this. Go go go.

I think the point being made is that while the level of detail and animation in MMO art has certainly improved over the last 20 years, the methods themselves of handling art assets has as well, and it's mostly because of the mainstream introduction and use of tools such as Unity. I'm sure it isn't the first of it's kind but I'm sure it's level of maturity has significantly minimized the complexities (and costs) of this aspect of development, which is the point being made above.

Personally, I think the whole art thing is being blown out of proportion. I have no problem with them using the assets as placeholders for now. Time will tell if they truly follow up with their own art to replace it. That part can be done easily enough. The question is will they do it.

Valid criticism. If Unity makes it so easy to create the art, why aren't they further along in other areas, such as content design and world building?

This is why the Twitch streams are critical for them. The first one seemed to exceed expectations of the large majority of those following it. And while it's possible they aren't able to work on the game full time, they still need to show decent progress with each new stream.

Tell him we also have the JunkiesNation guy (Zzy) and the guy who was stupid enough to volunteer to help with the EQNext site, so we're delusional enough to believe in his shit.

Hah, there is no middle ground in this thread. Either people want to string Brad up by his ball sack and burn him at the stake, or people want to blow Brad and give him a life-time supply of meds out of their own pocket. You guys are hilarious. I think if this was a vapor-ware scam, it would have already died. We would not have gotten Twitch streams, and we would have heard about more internal turmoil than we have already. It may suck, but there seems to be real effort here to create a game.

I am planting my flag in the ground of Team Cautious Optimism. I want Brad and his team to succeed and I am willing to be patient. But, I won't give him money before he has a product to sell. Nor will I undermine him, his efforts, or his enthusiasm.
