You can never go home again. A sad fact of life that so many people try to pretend isn't true. Things change. People change. What might of worked 15 years ago could be a total failure now. Good luck convincing some of these guys of that though. If EQ did it then it was the pinnacle of game design and should be copy/pasted directly into every single MMO until the end of time. Fuck anyone who disagrees with them.

Interesting how some think that a template or design that is older just won't work because time has passed it by.
The Rolling Stones celebrated their 50th anniversary in the summer of 2012. The Rolling Stones made their Glastonbury debut, headlining on Saturday 29 June 2013. Hyde Park Live, a live album recorded at Hyde Park on 6 and 13 July 2013, was released exclusively as a digital download through iTunes on 22 July 2013 and peaked at #16 in the UK and #19 in the US. The Rolling Stones have sold over 200 million albums worldwide having released 24 albums in the US, 22 in the UK, 9 concert albums in the UK and 10 in the US. In 1989, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and were ranked #4 in Rolling Stone magazine's 100 Greatest Artists of All Time in 2004. The band was formed in London in April in 1962 and currently hopes to release a new album this year for which Jagger and Richards have written new material for.
Just because its old doesn't mean there is no interest in it.

I dunno.. this project has received a lot of hype based on very little information.. assumptions formulated from Brad's 2 major projects. So they might fail but you can't really say either way at this time. It would really take a game first to prove either way.. I'm curious tho.. What wouldn't work today that was in EQ? I look at EQ overall and I still think it's original design has a place today. That's why the game still has a player base.

Really hoping for a KS tier that offers a physical copy of the game, and a life time subscription. (Assuming a box price and monthly fee). Figure $70.00 for the game, and $15.00 per month sub, and your looking at $970 in five years. Give me a $1000 tier, featuring 1 or more copies of the game, a lifetime sub, some cool "schwag"; as long as the game looked like what I have been waiting for, I'd do it.

Take your time on the KS, I want to feel compelled to open my wallet.
I'm actually kind of curious what the long-term effects of lifetime subs are for game companies. Sure, the initial pile of cash is great, but what happens when that has been used up, and you have to continue developing content knowing that there are x number of players that you'll never get a monthly sub from again?

LotRO offered lifetime subs three different times -- at launch, during the first anniversary, and the second anniversary (I think). I've wondered whether the move to free-to-play and subsequent staff cuts at Turbine could have been delayed if they hadn't offered the lifetime subs. (Although, I'm sure Warner Bros. played at least some part in the FTP and layoff decisions.)

Ok. I think it's time for Utnayan to step in, this thread is getting out of control. Three years away, not the best track record, no details at all yet and people are hoping they can drop $1k on a game.

Maybe I'm just poor, stingy, or too cynical and pessimistic but this seems insane to me.

Shocking? What MMO nowadays doesn't receive a lot of hype based on pretty much nothing? People were kissing Curt's ass for YEARS without anything solid to go on. He would just come along ask a question (mainly to bump his thread) and let the armchair designers go nuts until his thread fell off page 1 again. Not to bring up the past again or anything, but Brad is pretty guilty of that as well. People see a developer post and act like they are super interested in the public's feedback and people fall all over themselves to present their ideas.

Don't get me wrong the armchair designing can be a ton of fun, but people should at least see it for what it is heh.

I don't care about physical items, but if the game offers Alpha access, special forums, lifetime sub, game, etc... $500-$1000 would seem fair. (Depending on the swag)

It's a wager on Brad basically...and like I said before, better him than Vegas.

Hell, I spent $300 on Star Citzen, and I hate space ship games.

Not sure with Kickstarter you can offer lifetime stuff, per their guidelines: "No contests, raffles, coupons, or lifetime memberships"
Not to say that some post-KS funding thing couldnt have it tho.

Could they just word it as "No subscription fee to play the game"?

There are plenty that don't interest me.. Actually the people you are referring to would probably say the same. A large portion of supporters for this project are ex EQ players.. All they have basically been told is the game will be group focused and challenging. I'm not sure what you're getting at here tbh? Are you saying that if Brad went with the EQ type ideas the game won't work? Thats why I was asking for examples of what wouldn't work...

I'll add that Brad specifically asked for feedback.. Were we suppose to ignore him and just let this thread die even tho a lot of us are excited about this project? I just don't get it lol.. We can't win.. for years we were told to move all the old school design ideas to a central location.. now we have a central location with a game that is very relevant and someone is saying stop talking about old school features.. WTF??

Definitely no trivial loot code (TLC)...

Also, I'm not convinced this will be a subscription based game. Brad has fiddled with Free 2 Play in the past. A lot of titles are moving to F2P in order to attract more gamers. But since this game isn't designed for a mass audience, it's quite possible it will be subscription based. Brad has asked players if they would be willing to pay a higher than normal sub fee for a niche game. The revenue model may still be up in the air.
I like how the "Pantheon community feature wishlist" is only reflecting features that are basically Everquest 1.

I'm am hoping that the game looks good enough to drop 1k on it; however I won't drop a red cent on it if it doesn't have the things I am looking for. I dropped $250 on Proj. Eternity, and I am going to get an awesome game for that "donation". If the KS looks like what many of us have been wanting for the last few years, I'd be happy to spend 1K to help get it funded for all of us. 1k is nothing in the big picture. If I don't spend it on the dream of a game, I spend it on brewing supplies, and piss it all down the toilet eventually, or I buy a side of beef for BBQ, and eventually shit it out, or I buy a couple of 18 yo hookers, and get the clap...

Shit I just had my boss yell at me because I had 15 week worth of paychecks that I hadn't bothered to deposit yet; I can live off of a tiny amount. I'm a cheap/frugal mother fucker unless it's something I enjoy, then I spend it like a 90's rapper..

I tried making that point 75 pages ago got ran off the thread... Which is funny when Garriot's and Jacob's Kickstarter came out. This community pretty much put that shit on blast.. Brad Mcjesus comes in says hi and were all for feed back and this place falls over it's self to suck his cock.

I've said it before, and if don't mind will repeat it again,

The money I've pissed away over the past few years on mmo's just in the hopes of enjoying something as much as I did EQ/DAOC/briefly VG makes the idea of supporting Brad not seem so ridiculous for the chance of someone making a game along the lines I enjoy.

From Warhammer Collector Edition (75ish if not mistaken ) to the Malgus statue being the only thing out of the 150 dollar SWTOR CE being worth a shit , I've wasted money in some ways (did get at least brief enjoyment out of both and others though).

Point being , Brad's at least saying the right things , so if gave Bioware 150 dollars to watch them show me a 101 class in mmo big budget failure , why not support the guy who's at least aiming for what I want.
