I just wanted to share a different perspective with people who follow Pantheon. Many of you think that this is Brad McQuaid's MMO. It is not. Brad is essentially a figurehead and a mascot. Brad is along for the ride and of course the salary. This MMO is the brainchild of Chris Perkins. Who is Chris Perkins you ask? That's a very good question. He's someone with no bankable experience in the video game industry who has been put in charge of Pantheon's creative direction. Watch the interviews and Twitch streams and you'll see that Perkins does most of the talking.
Back when VR lost all of the real MMO experienced devs who left in disgust after Brad pocketed the Kickstarter money, the company was in crisis and barely clinging to life. So Brad started looking for volunteers. Now Chris Perkins may be a MMO genius but how many studios would hire a creative director for a MMO with no industry experience? Nobody in their right mind would do that. So ask yourself, why VR is having trouble getting funding? Their team is exceedingly light on credibility and experience. Combine that facet with Brad's missteps over the years and you have the current situation.
The MMO genre is dying and after numerous failures, it has lost its luster. Investors are not going to throw away precious funds to inexperienced studios with no track record. I hope Pantheon succeeds but the odds are stacked against VR.
