Seems like lots of players today, fuckers keep stealing my nodes.

After getting the self heal Monk is pretty damn easy solo, went from blues to yellows/occasional orange, on my way to 8 now. Missing that heal sure fucking hurts lol, can't wait for FD.

Short playtime initial impressions:

  • no major glitches or bugs that prevented me from playing
  • ‘no guides, quest markers, or maps. Def. Old school feel. I am ok with most of it but they really should add a basic map, even eq had one. They don’t have to mark it all up or have giant quest markers, but no map blows. Most people keep a web map up on another screen anyway. I know this stuff is a sensitive topic but this type of thing will prevent this game from ever growing beyond a certain point. I think requiring groups and making content difficult is fine, but the ‘Everything is hidden’ turns many people off
  • in the note above spells are the same way “does dmg over time”…just say how much. I can see the numbers on the screen and people will figure out the formulas anyway, again you can make the game fun without hiding stuff. Always been a complaint for me
  • the classes are fairly unique and fun and different. Groups are required for any serious content.
  • gear is difficult to find. I’m ok with this but like any game inflation over time will make it not so rare as time goes on and people advance
  • no auction house, active OOC market and chat, so far seems normal but spammy, had to move that channel to another window
  • bag space is a challenge to start and once you get harvesting skills(skinning/mining/berry picking/etc) you run out of bag space quickly. Just an FYI on this one
  • atm you can only pick 2 trade skills. Eq started this way and eventually ditched it, it can create a community and reliance but again I think this is one of those things that starts neat and in a year people have alts just for another trade skill or whatever
  • spell grouping are neat, there are sort of categories and you can pick a few spells for each
  • pets don’t hold aggro, another FYI, at least not necro pet
  • graphics are ok, it’s got a style that isn’t bad but it won’t blow you away
  • it does feel like it runs fairly smooth. I don’t notice any crazy glitching or missing spell casting windows or whatever. Overall decent quality over my expectations
  • I have not got into it yet, but there is an acclimation system that seems neat. Hot weather, cold, etc. it’s sort of like resists
  • dont forget to buy your spells, I was gimped until level 6 when I realized I didn’t have about 7 of my spells, night and day difference in strength and kill speed


overall I’d give it a B- at the moment. worth 40? Probably not if it also has a subscription fee when it is released. But it’s not god awful. For being in dev. For 10 years I would expect a bit more but it’s not a terrible experience by any measure. It’s just not excellent either.

I do think they are doing ok at catching the community aspect of EQ and I like the co-dependency of classes and encouragement of grouping. I do think some things are just not valid for either of those goals in 2024, like lack of maps, not explaining what skills actually do, and the rarity thing and limited tradeskill will just be moot after a year. The differences in classes do really make you want to try others, they all play very differently so far. I’ll keep playing a bit and probably pop back after major updates.

Also, I know the guild name is stupid we were just running around saying "bonk" and talking about how good our bonks are. After the wipe we can come up with something better.

Also, we are in the Human/Ogre/Myr area. The map I linked doesn't show wilds ends and it's an hour run to get here. Just a heads up.

Apparently most everyone is starting in the Human area. After soloing for the last 30 minutes, exploring, crafting etc. - It sucks Im so far away in the wilds, but its also great because gathering nodes are EVERYWHERE.

It's probably due to no online map for that area, lol.

lol, they chase for awhile. Same EQ split mob type gameplay from what I've seen in dungeons.
