A lot of people like the extra stuff. That's why having tiers is cool, you can have a mix and range of stuff, instead of just the typical CE or digital CE.

I don't want this team to bite off even more than they can't chew already with promises of physical items, though. Maybe for later funding. Maybe for an expansion. Maybe once the game is made and they're wanting to add content (I'd rather buy a cloth map and get a dungeon than buy a vanity mount in an ingame store and get the illusion it's going toward content development). Right now, though, I think digital rewards and face-time is enough.

Actually, I rather like the idea of offering post-launch items to directly fund different projects. Let the community have their swag, and let them decide exactly what they want made. New raid dungeon? New newbie area? New mid-level dungeon? Let content development be directed by the people willing to pay directly for it.

The shit they added was not my point. The point is a graphical representation of what backing certain tiers attained.
Yep. Much, much, much better organization for PE and Hex KS. Well the good news
biggrin.png
is since they are only going to get 800ish k, they will have to come back to kickstarter (well maybe) and KS 2.0 will hopefully be much better organized.

Hi everyone. Like many of you, I loved oldschool EQ. Like some of you, I endured Vanguard. Despite what follows, I am still on the fence about supporting this KS. I've been following this thread and decided to add my 2c.

If Vanguard never happened, this game would be funded by now. 10x over. It would have set records. But Vanguard wasn't just another failed MMO with a bad launch. It was a complete trainwreck.

Brad basically committed fraud. He knew Sigil was out of money. He knew Vanguard was in an alpha state. But he told us everything was fine, took our money and launched anyway. Even after the sale to SOE, he mentioned plans for an expansion with ship combat... Lies and more lies.

It wasn't only the launch and finances that were mismanaged. According to interviews and post-mortems, the game was poorly engineered and Sigil was mismanaged at every level.

Seven years later, he comes to Kickstarter tolaunch a studio and get startedon a game that sounds almost exactly like Vanguard when stretch goals are considered. He acknowledges the KS will probably only get them started and he will need additional funding.. ..from the entities that already won't fund him.

I read that this is the last chance for the high fantasy MMO. I disagree. Game development is becoming easier, not harder. Niche titles are popping up everywhere.

I read that this KS will show publishers a market for such a game exists. I disagree. Brad has a very bad reputation. I'd call it toxic. The outcome of his KS is not a measuring stick for an EQ-style MMO.

Brad: Please go back to the drawing board. There's lots of talent out there. Find it. Build a team. Do it inexpensively by forgoing a central studio. Work your ass off for a year and come back to us with something tangible. Prove to us you have the eye of the tiger. Please also find a proven biz guy to work with.

Look at what a small team at Facepunch has produced with Unity (Rust) in a year. If you start a KS with something tangible like that, you will win over a lot of doubters.

This shit is so out of whack. I just want the *game* to be great. All of this extra bullshit - I absolutely hate it.
You're right, but they need to add that shit. Swag is sometimes all it takes to get another donation. Add a fucking cloth map, and we'd have this bitch funded already...

Cite or link to niche fantasy MMOS that cater to the PvE (not PvP) EQ/VG crowd needed.

Oh I know that's all we're getting. I am supporting it anyways. I was just responding to the comments of people acting like I was asking for the names and contact info of different people. I was just trying to clarify again what I would like to see or what should be expanded on if they want more investors to trust and back this project. What the people jumping my shit is I already drank the Kool-Aid I am on board but there are shit loads out there who wouldn't even look twice at this thing.

And yes for a Kickstarter everyone donating is an investor the only difference is they don't get a share of the company so instead of entice them a clearly laid out plan and vision and usually a few perks for being early adopters. You all can't really be that daft and expect everyone to follow as blindly as you do.
I don't disagree.. There are people unwilling to donate at this point due to the level of discomfort they have in regards to the information.. Not just funding but core game play information. They obviously know that b/c they have been adding it to their updates. It seems like they have a weekly plan to drop different info.. Next week its lore week, they mentioned they have a week dedicated to classes, etc.. So this is very much a process but it doesn't hurt to let them know you want more. They seem to be listening.

As for funding.. what else can they say really? A lot of it will be based on how the KS does and then there are still no guarantees. I mean yea, if 100k people backed this project outside funding would probably already be knocking on their door but that's not the case. :-(

Are you really at the point of trying to argue bullshit semantics? If you are comfortable with the amount of information they have provided and think that will get them to the goal then I will happily sit back and watch this fucker crash and burn.

Wait, he did WHAT?!?!

I, for one, am shocked at all these revelations. I've pulled my pledge. I just had no idea about all these things. I'm now a client the consulting firm of lysis, inc to ensure my future KS donations are more informed, because before this day I was ignorant of all this common knowledge.

Hey, you guys remember on FoH how you had to donate to post?

Well I agree with you. The pictures are "exciting". They create excitement and buzz and make potential backers feel as if they are backing something legit and real. And offering T-shirts or cloth maps also gets potential backers excited. I wanna flaunt my 3l33t3 nerd status with a rare Pantheon T-shirt! (I'm serious right now)

I'd like more combat and class info but at the end of the day I'm still throwing some money at them. I think the odds are against them and we won't see a completed game - thus my choice of 250 pre-alpha tester v. 250 lifetime sub. ;-)

@TragedyAnn Yeah I'd pony up for a shirt, but that might be round 2 of fundraising: T-Shirts and Lemon Bars ;-)

Or just something as simple as an actual copy of the fucking game. Again no tier has it.

Sorry... What information of they not been forthcoming about? Other than what are potentially sensitive and confidential strategic goals of their overall business plan, that is. Why would they divulge Visionary Realms sources of secondary funding (possibly against said person/group's will) to pledgers whom they have no financial responsibility to?

I think you are confusing the fact that we aren't funding Visionary Realms as a company, and instead are funding a project of theirs.

Or maybe I'm still misunderstanding.

The $250 alpha tier is there I am as well, but the way the KS reads it is still easy for someone to think the lifetime sub is included in it. Since it says all previous tiers are included. Just another example of someone with a little writing experience and for-thought could have worked on pre-Kickstarter launch. I almost feel they would be better served taking a week or two and think about all the tiers, information, ect and redo the kickstarter.
