He recently posted in an EQ discussion group talking about returning to EQ, it seems like he would be interested in this for sure.I don't have twitter, or his email, but has anyone reached out to R. A. Salvatore?
+1000No, I want Pantheon bad. Too bad, probably. When Brad first started tweeting vague references to an old school MMO I was ready to pounce on it the first time he actually confirmed he was making something (and this thread was born). Any respect my wife has left for me she's going to lose if Pantheon doesn't happen because I'll go emo for a month.
I'm frustrated with the Kickstarter pitch because there are so many oversights, they've had to correct so much and it's still not being handled right, which means the whole project is being put in jeopardy. I love Kickstarter because magic can happen. Everyone points out all the shady stuff thatcouldgo wrong but without it, I wouldn't be playing through Broken Age right now and something like Pantheon wouldn't have a chance of happening.
However, before any team attempts it: Do. Your. Research. Compare your rough draft to a successful campaign. All this "we've got multiple classes to reveal over the coming weeks" simply means they're losing money they may not get back. Every Kickstarter view should be assumed to be a one and done. Right now if you go to the Pantheon page and hit the stretch goals section you can find a list of stuff this game won't have, including races and classes. What about the races and classes it does have? Oh, they're not saying? No pledge. Who knows if they'll come back, and who knows how much content will have been dripped out by then.
If you accept that you have a limited audience and are seeking crowd funding, when you make your big debut you should make as much noise as humanly possible. "We don't have rangers, but we do have warriors, clerics, shadowknights, rogues, wizards, shamans." I should have had the word EverQuest ringing in my ears and the Q&A videos should have all been released.
Sorry for the rant. I fucking want this game bad enough to help run a fan site which is something I never really intended to do because it's not in my nature. I can take or leave this genre on damn near any day of the week, but when you start saying things like "we want to bring back the EQ magic," I get all obsessed. I'm incredibly optimistic about Pantheon, just not its Kickstarter.
WOOT!
LDoN was awesome; and I would love to see something similar in Pantheon. Far as instancing bosses go; it depends on the boss. If they plan on doing some type of Planes of Power progression where there will be lots of flagging/backflagging then there will need to be something to keep the top guild from cockblocking the rest. I used to be very hardcore anti-instancing as well but after playing on the Vulak'Aerr EverQuest progression server I changed my stance. I'd rather have 100% instanced raid content instead of having to go through the crap that happened on that server again. I love old school EverQuest but when it comes to raiding they'll have to do something different.Brad has said that he wants to use instancing to deliver linear story telling content. I think something like LDoN is perfect for that. Instancing a boss mob is not linear story telling element, that's just using instancing to reduce competition (which I dislike).
Click on the time bar and you can move to whatever point you want.WOOT!
I thought I recognized this guy's voice... and as soon as I heard the guy say "Eva", and "Shaere", I knew it was Narvakhan/Amadagu (Sean Swafford). One of my first guildies and an awesome friend, leader, and player.
Never before have I met such a cool guy in game.
Sean, If you're lurking here, send me a PM and I'll tell you who I was in EQ.
Very intelligent discussion. Thanks for the post, Flex.
**EDIT** that podcast needs a fast forward, or maybe I'm just missing it.... I accidentally clicked back, and then realized I couldn't jump back to where I was... painful
You're not saying anything that we haven't already covered for 9000 posts. The whole thing is so amateur, from the KS itself to how the information is being presented, when it's being presented, etc...
Yup they weren't prepared for this. They are scrambling hard. All this release stuff should have been there from the start of this. The whole thing is so amateur, from the KS itself to how the information is being presented, when it's being presented, etc. Even the small amount of stuff they have on there is not very good. It is a surprise this has gotten as much as it has and I'm sure it has only to do with 'Aradune'. Anyone else and this would barely be pulling 100k.
Sadly, I don't think they have a whole lot. I think they have a lot of great ideas, some nice concept art and that's it. There is only so much blind fanboyism is going to buy you. I also get the feeling there are more trolls than just the 10k backers.
Did you just take over for UT? Again, how many times are you going to repeat the same old tired argument? Yes, like you've been repeating about 14 times a day, we get it.The whole thing is so amateur, from the KS itself to how the information is being presented, when it's being presented, etc. Even the small amount of stuff they have on there is not very good. We don't need to worry about it not hitting its goal until we are much closer to the end. But the plan should always have been from the beginning, that if this Kickstarter fails to fund, you go into the wilderness for about a month and get things right. You develop the world more. You use that Visionary Realms Kickstarter account to back about 20 other Kickstarter projects to build up some goodwill and connections. AND to get an idea of what actually works. You bring some of the backers on-board who you felt really understand the project and have given good feedback to act as sounding boards and consultants. You secretly build a kickass website that is filled with great concept art, hand-drawn (or computer-drawn) zone maps, and a manifesto for why this game is important. After that month, you create a rough draft Kickstarter that you let fans see and give feedback on before you go live with it.Still looking for this project to hit its goal...that being said,
It would be wise to get together with the team (and/or us) and start planning alternate route.
Example: If the project does not hit it's goal, the good news is many of us will not care and still re-pledge. Take 30-60 days between and relaunch with the mistakes corrected from before and a lower goal (Maybe 500k)..stating that this is "phase one" of the company building process. (Theykey is to get the minimum needed to begin and this will keep the word circulating.)
Just an example, but as I posted on another site...it is wise to always have a plan B.
Seems like such a bad precedent to set for an MMO, given how rushed and unfinished the typical MMO is, and how you only get that new MMO feeling a single time.We don't need to worry about it not hitting its goal until we are much closer to the end. But the plan should always have been from the beginning, that if this Kickstarter fails to fund, you go into the wilderness for about a month and get things right. You develop the world more. Then, you start a Twitter AND Facebook AND G+ campaign much like this one, only less cryptic and cliche. Brad writes a mea culpa about how they rushed into this and were unprepared, complete with a sincere apology to fans for not doing a better job the first time. Then he talks about all the backers they brought on board and how they truly want to make this a game for the people by the people. Next, all the videos for the Kickstarter should be shot with people showing real emotions, not reading platitudes off cue cards.
Then, and only then, do they attempt a second Kickstarter. And this time, when they go to all the guild pages, all the gaming websites, all the message boards, the first thing they post is an acknowledgement that this is a second try, a second attempt to do the right thing. They acknowledge it and own it. And then they talk excitedly about how far the game has come since the first Kickstarter and why they desperately want people to have the chance to enjoy their game because they know people have wanted this type of game forever and there are people out there who never got a chance to play it. Real emotion, sincere appeals, that's what it will take.
Yeah, it's only been a week with over a month to go. Seriously just because it's been slow progress during a 3 day holiday weekend doesn't mean that the project wont get funded and that it's time for plan b. There is still plenty of time for the whole thing to turn around. As we approach the final days and it's still not funded many of the vanboi types will be increasing their pledges to make it succeed. It's funny how the Kickstarter just started it's second week and everyone is already drawing up plans for attempt #2. And this is one of the problems I'm having with this whole thing. In fanboy eyes it's not possible for this to fail over the real lack of market support, it'll always get blamed on a weak kickstarter campaign.
This has nothing to do with failing or succeeding .. everything is about being prepared. (As they should have a plan B for success as well)It's funny how the Kickstarter just started it's second week and everyone is already drawing up plans for attempt #2.
