I like no instancing in theory but I feel with modern data mining and shit it might not be possible. Plus you won't have 100 Viable raid targets at first like EQ had in Luclin-PoP
I agree there are issues. I'm not sure which is the lesser of the two evils to be honest. I do know we don't need freeport1, freeport2, shit like that. Same with dungeons. Certain raid mobs, I dunno man.

I would hope they would attempt solving those issues without instances though, that should be the last resort. It goes against the entire spirit of the project.

I can see both points of view, but this is supposed to be a throwback title, and instancing content seems weak. It is one of the toughest challenges for the VR team, no doubt.

Don't make it instanced. Don't make it 'locked' encounters. Be more creative. Like Rift had encounters where you ported to a pedestal and battled a mob. Others couldn't port until you were done, but they could watch and cheer you on or buff you before hand. Even if it's just letting your raid be tagged to run through a gate to encounter a dragon, it's still at least in the actual game world where others may not be able to interfere, but you're not in your own little private instance of the game.

Some of my favorite Vanguard content was the griffon quest mobs that were hard as shit (when I was doing them at least) and you'd have 'locked' encounters that were either spawned or just hard, so various groups would be there cheering others on, wiping over and over, buffing up, ressing each other. It was community building and encounters were somewhat protected/locked/personalized.

We don't have to make everything a private instance when letting guilds, groups or raids have exclusives on targets.

Genjiro from LoS right? I was in Sanctuary when Fell and his cronies triggered the 10th ring and despawned Dain on you guys. That was actually what caused me to basically quit playing EQ.

Gonna throw this idea out there, feel free to shit on it:

What if some raid zones had an instance as a kind of gating mechanism. So, say there's a big dragon at the end, but there's no way to actually get there through the non-instance world. So, each raid group has to complete the instanced portion, and then when done, they get put in the non-instanced dragon lair. Since they finished first, they get first shot. There could be some above group loot in the instanced loot, but not as good as the dragon. And the instances would only be available when the dragon was up in his non-instanced lair. Thoughts?
I would like to see some more zones, or even instanced zones blocked off by some badass like this fella, keeping everyone out until a guild came along and make it safe to enter.

Sorry, have you seen the 14ers so far?
Now imagine 100 times the ammount all able to give Brad input via the Kickstarter comments except few, if any, have any real concerns about old school purity and are only there because their youtube hero said it's gonna be awesome.

Looks like 2013 hasn't been very kind to old Sam

We can assume the ones without ages were under the age of consent, which of course Sam would argue is fucking bullshit and should be at like 13.

For all his insanity, though, he was entertaining and usually had pretty sharp wit when it came to server drama and making fun of people:

Hate

Evil aligned guild. The sheer amount of man hours pumped into the guild by 30 year old obese virgins, coupled with the guilds policy of complete PvP abstinence, allowed the guild to excel at PvE far beyond other guilds...excepting of course <Ruin>, to which <Hate> will always be second best.

/agreed I would much rather have bosses triggered than any kind of instance. Throw in a balcony for an audience.

Ahh cool I missed you saying that.

Honestly I feel this KS best shot is some dudes just going nuts for it with massive donations at the end, some peoplereallywant a game like this. Be interesting to see if that proves correct.

So what I said for raids but not with group dungeons. I can live with this. I don't feel it's near as important with non-raid content. But part of me just thinks if done very sparingly and with much thought on how to do it, then very limited instancing could really be a boon.
I know everyone thinks that Kickstarters just get a massive jump at the end but again that usually isn't due to a flurry of money coming in from supporters. Often it's the case that the person who started the Kickstarter or someone affiliated with the person listing tossing in the cash. I wouldn't be surprised with enough effort if this thing hits the $600k range... If that happens there is little reason for Brad or someone else to put in the other $200k the Kickstarter fees are only 5% so after the $40k kickstarter fee and paying yourself back the $200k you just put in you are still left with $560k.. The is no reason they would willingly leave that on the table.

Even if they didn't get another dime pledged they could put in the remainder and after the Kickstarer fee's still walk away with $190k as is. Although when it's that low of a return it's not as worth it, for some reason everyone thinks that the projects that barely reach the 100% goal spike just out of good will and sunshine.

Yes, Fell was a whole nother level of crazy and obsessed. Nameless had a pretty good community though, I helped you guys do CR a couple times and had some friends in Sanctuary.

I would be all for getting SDW on Rerolled. Don't recall much sharp wit, but he is certainly entertaining. Someone email him or something, I mean Fohguild.org is where he came out to the world right?

Also Sam has an encyclopedia Dramatica page. How the fuck is it no other Foh/rerolled people have a ED page? I mean eq2 flames has a page with a smaller community and crappier drama. Foh/Rerolled could def fill out a dozen pages on people.

anyone care to summarize the last 15 pages that I dont feel like reading tonight?
Brad did some interviews and put out a 50minute video.. Talked to some fat internet hero for some Youtube exposure. Still making shit up as they go along, so they mentioned X-server stuff, people lose there collective shit.. Kickstarter still limp dicking along like a horse with a broken leg.. Lost of speculation and bitching.. that's about it.

According to my very very rough 2 minute estimates, with a monthly sub fee of $20, at 20K there is about 1.6M left per year to repay investors, at 50K there is about 6.7M. $370K/1.5M for game sales @ $60 minus estimated pre-orders, free months, and transaction fees. Lifetime subs not considered.

I didn't really put a lot of work into this. I have no idea what facilities cost per workstation in San Diego. I'm guessing I underestimated that. CS is $75/hr @ 30 mins per sub.

Personally, I think $15/month is unrealistic in the era of Steam sales and seemingly thousands of ftp options. An industry spooked by the pay to play model probably isn't going to bite on a business model based on a $20/month sub fee. Especially with baggage considered.
Facilities cost is way too high. They have talked about a modest space. At your low end a 2000 square footbspace would be $150 per foot. That is extremely high. I found a ton of San Diego office space for a small fraction of that. Also when calculating salaries you shouid tack on 20% for taxes, benefits and administration. Actual servers will be colocated somewhere but still not drive costs up to the level you mention.

More visibility helps when you're able to convince an audience that you have something positive and meaningful. When all you have are promises andgood intentionsit's not going to result in the effect you want.
You are charitable to an error concerning the intentions of this kickstarter.
