This is correct, BoT for a while was a pretty fun place to XP in, you could get Ornate patters, runestones, and parchments pretty easy. Then when they opened the flood gates the fucking trains to zone and the safe area at the start of that instance were nonstop. Thankfully, by this time most people who were in higher raiding guilds could just move on to Solro Tower, PoFire, and PoEearth for plebeian free AA farming because PoAir, and PoWater both sucked shit.
PoWater was fantastic to kill minis :p POFire was just such good AOE / tables killing, though. PoAir...well, no one really went there except for xegony and the key event so you could then kill xegony :p

ALSO, does anyone else remember the Saryn key event? Where you went into the stomach of that thing? I feel like I'm on crazy pills--no one else seems to remember it.

So, does the team have people who can create a game yet, or still just several dudes who want to collect checks for their "cool ideas" plus one engineer?

I was about to say the same thing. BOT was a blast until it was overrun with noob fucktards who got overwhelmed every other pull and trained to zone. Before they "opened the floodgates" I hadn't seen a train in weeks. But yea, our guild just moved to POF which was nice and quiet and fun to pull the tables.

PoP, the expansion that basically trivialized travel in EQ and put druids and wizards out of the porting business.

9 out of 10 of them are Idea Guys (and they have come up with virtually no ideas until now)
So what's 200k split 9 ways anyhow?

Fuuck. I guess that's why they have that engineer. Someone needs to know enough math to divvy up the loot.

This is a clusterfuck of a KS. I seriously doubt they Are going to reach there goal, and then they will attempt to relaunch the KS again?...

If they can't even manage this shit right I have no hopes for there game with that tiny ass budget.

So the blue server has people to play with at all levels?
Absolutely. Feels very similar to late Kunark population spread on live.

Blackburrow and crushbone always have 2-3 groups.
Kurns is empty most of the time.
Always at least 1 group of scrubs doing befallen poorly.
Orc 1 & 2 + WC dervs always have action.
Unrest and Mistmoore pretty much packed all day.
High pass orcs + basement gobbos always camped.
Oasis has the usual croc & Orc groups.
Temple of Cazic Thule usually has 1 group of stupids camping it for some reason. Sometimes empty though.
Upper guk is usually empty, but lower dead side is busy. Live side is empty.
SolA usually has 1-2 groups, same with B.
Paw and Perma are pretty slow... Most days empty
Overthere is pretty much just bards and Druids soloing.
Karnors and Seb are hotspots. Howling Stones less so.
City of Mist is empty
Chardok sees AOE groups...
EC Tunnel usually has 70-120 people.

Saryn key event sucked ughh. potorment or w/e it was called was a cool looking zone but boring as hell and only used for progression sadly.

Also i raided decently on another char before in Kunark/velious. The Difference with PoP was you had a ton of zones and areas appropriate for all diff skill/gear types. No matter how good your guild was you had many diff solo/group and raid options of varying size.

Now I quit in summer of 03. But I can't see how anyone could not get into at least the tier 2 zones+BoP and maybe Potactics. These required quest lines that were pretty easy so long as you could marshal a few groups of 65s. As others said they mostly served to keep the plebs out and made some of these zones really great.

EQ Population kept expanding during PoP hit it's peak in GoD or OOW I forget, but GoD was the real EQ killer.

I liked the progression style of PoP, I would love to see a similar structure for group play. Something like 10 tiers of increasingly difficult content designed around small groups would be really cool. I loved PoP progression in theory, the only thing I hated in practice was the whole "Welp, I had to work on the night we got some tier 3 flag, now I have to wait until we backflag to get in." Especially when people got tired of doing backflags and it turned into pity-raids for a handful of people.

I know most of my friends who played casually were easily able to keep up with the first few tiers. It seems like the elemental planes were really what weeded out most people at the time, if I remember right. Also maybe dependant on how active and coordinated your servers open raiders were. We had a lot of open raids on mine, and I caught a backflag or two with them since they did it so often.

I feel like PoP was great because of how much diversity there was in the zones. I really liked it. I just kind of puttered out around elementals because of schedule issues and only a few guilds on my server doing the content.

Here is how you know they have a really big uphill climb. To any backer/supporter, yesterday was a very good day in terms of updates/money/backers (most backers in over a week). Yet it still didn't even clear 14k for the day. I thought in the beginning this needed at least 15k a day but that was before the negative day and a couple of other low days. Now it basically needs at least 20k a day to have a chance.

I will not play a game with cross-server play anymore. It isn't a MMO to me. I'm not fond a single starting city either unless they have a really good reason why this is the case. As other have said, it doesn't make sense. EQ did a great job for its time really making starting areas reflect their respective races. That adds so much to the game in my opinion.
(sorry trying to catch up...some of us have work/school/kids lol)
Can someone explain why cross-server play is a horrible idea? I don't really know what that means, but it's not "Oh hey, you play Pantheon too?? What server?? Oh too bad. that's not my server. Oh well."
It doesn't allow you to play with other players, regardless of server?
Why is that bad?? (genuinely asking bc I don't know)

Love it or hate it but I do kind of miss trains to zone, Black Burrow, Unrest, and Karnor's castle being some of the biggest offenders if I can remember. When shit when down in these places it could fuck up everyone's day in the zone if they weren't careful, that element of danger was awesome.

It's been so long since I played that shit it was hard to remember but yeah Plane of Torment was all kinds of fucked up weirdness, it was another zone once we got flagged and killed Sayrn a couple of times we hardly went back, I can remember XPing there a few times but there wasn't much reason to.

rrr_img_58002.png

I also missed fucked up strange zones like Plane of Mischief, people can say it's nostalgia and rose colored goggles all they want but it was the uniqueness and the ability to go pretty much anywhere at any given time that was fun. Also even if you were in a raiding guild you didn't know exactly when shit would pop or if you would even be the first there so you never when with a 100% certainty what you would be doing that night. It was much different than it's Tuesday everything is reset lets run LFR 3 times for my alts and shit and then heroic raid starts a 9pm kind of shit which just burns out the game.

It's a horrible idea to the people fucking whining about it because they have poor imaginations. They are under the impression that cross-server play automatically means 'queue up for instance runs (that don't exist in Pantheon, btw) with a bunch of randoms who I will never speak to again'. They are right to be angry about this system, because that kind of anonymity destroys the need to build a 'reputation' with the people in your immediate community/server.

Now, what they actually said in the interview, is that they want options for FRIENDS to play with each other cross-server, and they are exploring the possibilities for this in their tech. So we're all a rerolled community right? Maybe I wanna group with one of you guys but we are on different servers. If we are friends, why would it be a bad thing to be able to send you a group invite cross server, and then have a method of temporarily bringing you to my server for a grouping opportunity, or vice versa?

There is no reason. It's a great fucking idea. People just spazzed because all they can imagine is WoW awful system of total player disconnect and anonymity.

Well, I don't know if we have a true idea of what THEY mean when they say "cross-server" as we are comparing the idea to our experiences of cross-server and instancing.

From a traditional sense, we look at cross-server as a mechanic that is damaging to the community. In most cases cross-server play is done by people from various servers queueing up for some instanced opportunity and based on some set of credentials are randomly grouped together and sent to an instance. Thus, people are not residing or impacting their world. To my understanding, people want others to remain in the gaming world and that community be forced to interact with the world around them (players and environment alike).

That is all based on taking their words and applying it to what we know. However, they may be using this term with another meaning in mind. So people are primarily speaking in terms of preventing instancing and losing the identity of a server community.

:emoji_nose:I feel you by the way, I have just been fortunate to having pretty well our entire town shutdown due to weather. I've been to work 2 to 3 days in two weeks and the kids are taking advantage of the weather and being everywhere and anywhere but home.... hopefully, everything will go back to normal tomorrow:emoji_nose:
