He has multiple billionaires on speed dial, he was just trying to get the community involved in the investment process with that desperate, sad tweet instead of just do it all himself. Which he could do, easily. Just donate on their website, where they don't have to worry about annoying things like reaching goals before they take your money, meanwhile Brad will work his backroom magic and secure funding for the project YOU begged him to make. You think he's not busy doing other things? It's a full time job for him just turning away offers to head up new AAA MMO projects daily. But no, his rabid fanbase had to bombard him with emails "save MMORPGs Brad, please!" you cried. He just wants to include you in the process.
You almost got me. Bravo. Bravo.

it shouldn't be OUR job to fund HIS game. we are not fucking share holders. if the game goes on to be hugely successful, all you get is your in game horse and a thank you letter. sorry, not enough for me. if he wants to take his company public and i can buy shares, MAYBE i'd think about it.

I am sure only the deep pocket investors that he is looking for would be given anything like that.

If EQN is the future, I quit.

  • This is the Boots of the Zephyr, which allow you to glide through the air.
  • Every class is advanced individually, so you may have a Tier 4 Warrior, and a Tier 2 Wizard, and a Tier 1 Rogue. You can choose who you play at a given time, swapping between them with relative ease outside of combat.
  • Playing how you want, where you want and when you want is a big goal for us.
  • EverQuest Next does not require the use of tanks and healers. Our combat mechanics and our AI do not support dedicated healers and focused tanks. It doesn't work
  • I go through and find a class that has Mana Burn, I equip that in my offensive slot since it does damage. I find Spell Reflect from a different class and equip that. And I get Unsummon in case they have pets that I can unsummon, and I equip that.
  • Do Is there a limit to the number of classes a player can get, or can one person get all the abilities, all the classes. There is no limit

So basically, everyone is a solo player. Everyone is responsible for DPS, buffing, and healing themselves. EQN is opposite of everything I love about MMO's. Not to mention the fucking gay ass Walt Disney graphics. I'm sure there is a lot of you who are excited about this. But I haven't seen it work yet. It will turn out just like SWTOR or GW2. Everyone will just level to max solo, then quit like they have been for the last decade. EQN took every bad idea from every failed MMO and packed it all up in one game. EQN. They told us Free Realms was the future. Look how that turned out? Nauseating.

Merlin, just because you can change classes or skill sets does not mean you are everything at one time. See TSW for a perfect example. Just because the game allowed you to unlock every single skill in the game did not make it any worse. They still locked you into chosin only a limited amount of those kills to put on your skill bar. Think of it this way. You and your buddies cant find a healer? Just swap into one in a pinch, even though its not your favorite roll and you would rather play that rogue. Also, I highly doubt that you can "DPS, buffing, and healing themselves"

Seriously, you need to check out TSW. Its free and its a great game to go through the content. That game will prove to you that the above is not as bad as you think it is. Put down your EQ box and play some other games. See what else the genre has to offer other than EQ classic.

Also, soloing is here to stay bro. I would love to see a game like EQ again where you are forced to group by the sheer difficulty of the content, but thats not happening anymore in a mainstream game. People want shit to do if they cant do group content. People bitched at this during EQ and they will continue to bitch about this if you take it away again.
Also you are missing the most exciting part of EQN ,the story bricks and advanced multi-layered AI they are trying to. If they can pull this off, thats some really revolutionary and groundbreaking shit right there that will change mmos forever.

thatd be so awesome. they'd offer him 10k for a 75% share.

I found the PERFECT parallel to Pantheon. He even mentions the 'Vision'.

Seriously, best analogy for Brad McQuaid ever.

Nah, they'd help fund a huge portion, but would demand a royalty. They'd probably do something like $800,000 for 49% (they aren't game developers, they don't want to be making those decisions), $1 royalty for every box sold and a $0.50 royalty on every monthly subscription. That sounds more like a Shark Tank deal.

If EQ:N attracts the opposite community that Pantheon has attracted so far, I'll be happy as a pig in shit.

They'd find out the KS didnt fund and collectively go:

i agree 100%. if they called the game something other than EQ, it wouldn't be as upsetting. but calling a game that is a GW2/WoW/rift abortion everquest is insulting.

Except that TSW is a terrible example because:

EverQuest Next does not require the use of tanks and healers. Our combat mechanics and our AI do not support dedicated healers and focused tanks.

With systems like that EQN will end up with one to a few optimal, totally homogenized, role-less, cookie cutter specs.

Not to derail but I don't see the issue with the second bullet point. As I understand it you can't be everything at once nor can you level/skill up everything at once. You have to have that class activated to use its abilities and gain experience for it so it seems like the only difference is you don't have to log in and out to do so, you can just swap in game. Unless you want to argue that not having to travel to your group once you log off your rogue and log in your shaman because your healer left and you found another DPS ruins your immersion.

I'm on board with hating against using the Everquest name and lore for EQN (abusing I should say)... but if half of what they're talking about comes to fruition the game will be vastly different then the last decade of DIKU clones. I'm looking forward to it. Even if they fuck it up it wont be a DIKU fuckup like everything else in recent years, and the genre needs new ideas badly.

I'm glad I didn't donate a damn thing to this train wreck. I have kept an eye on it and read the updates but decided to speak with my wallet for once. It's 2014 step up your game guy.
I also didn't donate a thing. Come to think of it, nobody did, because not a single cent has been charged yet. You're still pretty hardcore, though.

Agreed. Landmark and EQN aren't very "Everquest", but they both sound like fun games that I want to play. SOE is doing a very good job on the Landmark alpha so far, and it gives me hope. More importantly, they'll actually be real games that get released.

I wouldn't give up on EQNext. It isn't going to be the second coming of EQ Classic but it may be something we can all enjoy and be proud that it has EQ stamped on it. I don't mean to be delusionally optimistic but at least we know EQN is coming and it isn't something depending on us to get it off the ground. No offense to Brad, but this isn't how I like to envision my games going in. I'm not blaming him for trying either but let's look forward to what we have and see where it goes. Surprisingly SoE appears to be open to their people right now. This may be some evil marketing ploy but EQNL has been pleasant thus far and I have no reason to believe EQN won't be the same thing. Let's face it. SOE's back is against the wall, they need us right now and if they choose to screw us, then screw them. We decide if they get any money or not.

I don't like the 'you can be everything' syndrome in games because what it means is I'll have to be the one to constantly switch. It's like working a job where you're the one that knows how to do everything, which means other assholes will be lazy or their incompetence rewarded and you'll then be stretched thin constantly trying to do all the important things nobody else knows how to do or do as well. No thanks. At least in a trinity or role-defined game if you're the healer, you'd better learn to fucking heal or gtfo, instead of just making the few competent people constantly fill whatever the most important role is that minute.
