No, that is silly. Because some games fail -- they don't make up the money spent on them. We can show that side with examples. Therefore it's pretty easy to theorize that some games that could make money don't get made. Do you honestly believe game publishers are 100% accurate in estimating interest in a game? Really? If you believe any amount of error could possibly exist, then it must be that at least some games that have a market do not get made (just as some games that get made fail to find a financially suitable market).I think it's ridiculous to say, "X-Com didn't have a market, but its success obviously proved otherwise"! Well, duh? That's why it was made? There was enough obvious interest to justify green-lighting the project. All games made have enough of a market interest to justify their cost, yes. All games not made, don't have enough market interest to justify the cost of making them, yes.
I don't know how much of a market Pantheon might have, but your absolute stance is very hard to understand.
Edit: I take back that last comment. The market Pantheon has is hardly any except for cultists. The type of market for a hardcore MMO I'm less sure about.
