changing to a true 3 axis play requires an entirely different control scheme.GW2 tried soooo hard to get it right even to the point of giving underwater breathing, super fast swimming, crystal clear underwater vision and OP underwater abilities. But it was still a hassle. There's just nothing that underwater combat brings to the table.
I agree with this 100%, and would add that it needs a section update like:The biggest problem with the Kickstarter page is you don't get too good a sense of how different it will actually be from the myriad of WoW clones that have come and gone over the years. If I didn't know much about EQ or VG and saw this page it would seem like a pretty standard MMO to me.
Very early in the page you should make it more clear what the design principles are; something like:
- More content from 1-50 than other MMO's, not just a race to max level
- Non instanced dungeons/content
- Soloing not the primary method for leveling, no standard quest hub grinds.
- Most low to mid level mobs will not be a cake walk like other MMO's
More specifics and not "the game will be harder".
They still can. They really should of called the $45 pledge the "Early Bird Alpha" Tier. Then once it fills up, create a new Tier at $100 for the same thing.
But at the same time, isn't that exactly what everyone said he shouldn't do? Because every time he is unable to do something exactly as he stated 3 years prior, everyone screams at him that he was lying, he's a fucking a-hole etc...I'd rather him keep it fairly general right now until he is positive he can do what he said he can do.I agree with this 100%, and would add that it needs a section update like:
"How will Pantheon be different from other MMOs?"
I know personally I only have enough desire and time to get invested in one MMO every year or two, and I need to be re-assured that the next MMO I play is sufficiently different and interesting to be worth it. The big questions are: "How will this differ from WoW, GW2, ToR and TESO?" because we're all pretty tired of that.
How much instancing will it have? How easy will it be to solo? Will there be specific class roles? Is trading going to require socialization? How rare will items be?
Right now it's too early to be too specific, but if I were writing the kickstarter I would put up use case / storyboards that highlighted an experience that would not be possible in most MMOs.
There's "30 days of gametime" for the $45 tier, so assuming subscription-basedEdit: no mention of a sub so far.
The one thing I never got is why stretch goals are linear. I get that the price difference between the previous goal isn't necessarily the estimated cost but if UI Mod functionality was near 200k and gnomes were 200k who would pick gnomes over UI? Same with player housing vs mobile app.
I also think that it's ironic the sky and water content is at the end. I feel like many people don't want those in the game, lol.
I've always wanted to reply to a quote with my own quote. Thx TucbroI think they should restructure stretch goals on kickstarter. Instead of at X amount we get this, at XX amount we get this, and at XXX amount we get this...They should give the option to just have the goals be out there, and when you throw your money in you pick which stretch goal they will be going after. This way the stretch goals are picked by the player, not just the order in which the Developer put them on the ladder.
What got me thinking about it is when Brad said "PVP may be a stretch goal". Let's say they put PVP at $1 million and 4 extra races at $2 million. Well what if no one wanted PVP but everyone wanted those 4 extra races? How would you be able to tell? PVP would just get hit eventually as people are trying to fund their way to the 4 races. Devs would spend time developing PVP when no one wanted it. If they were able to allow backers to pool towards what the backers wanted instead, PVP may never get funded, but the players could get their 4 races on day one.
Disclaimer: I am not against PVP, I just used it as an example of why I think Kickstarter should develop a more robust stretch goal system, and because Brad mentioned it as a stretch goal.
This is a total stretch.. It sounded like an EQ/VG clone Which is what we expected..I guess wow is sort of an EQ clone..Gotta say.. it sounds like another WoW clone, but "for a target audience". They pretty blatantly imply they aren't revolutionizing anything; they are just going to handpick what they like and put it in the game (just like every single WoW clone in existence).
What are the chances that Brad McQuaid is the one to finally succeed in making a successful WoW-clone, on a limited budget? ...

Your wizard brethren are right there with you. 39 Phinny kills to get the drop for my wizard epic. You should feel bad, Brad, for Kedge. I was a mage and I still hate you for that.
Ha I hated Kedge!Your wizard brethren are right there with you. 39 Phinny kills to get the drop for my wizard epic.
What makes is sound different to you? It has "Wildstar telegraphing", reactionary-twitch combat, no severe death penalty. That sounds like WoW, not Classic EQ. I'm honestly curious, because I haven't heard anything that makes me think Classic EQ.This is a total stretch.. It sounded like an EQ/VG clone Which is what we expected..I guess wow is sort of an EQ clone..
You may be right, but it has a zoom out/in function... If it's there I'm gonna be playing the minimap (radar) rather than what's in front of me. Happens in every game. Nothing can surprise you if it's right in front of your face via your UI.That GPS things looks to be more of a way to see what NPCs are in your general vacinity, doesnt appear to be a map, more like a radar.
Overland dungeons, class/combat system this is much more in line with VG..he said they don't want twitch combat yet you used that as your example ha.What makes is sound different to you? Where was it stated there was no serious death penalty? What makes is sound different to you? It has "Wildstar telegraphing", reactionary-twitch combat, no severe death penalty.
