Ceythos seems like an awesome dude and does seem like the team is listening. Nice to have him posting around these parts. Great to see the project stretch beyond the 100K mark, even if it's mostly because someone dropped the big $10,000 hammer.

Just a bit of light reading, eh?

I've been lurking for longer than I care to admit - the rate you all's feedback is coming in is almost a full-time job to keep up with, lol. Please keep doing it though, my sleep cycle is overrated!

And fess up, who's going to be the first one to try to name their NPC "Fansy", or your item "Fansy's Famous Applesauce"?
i was hoping more along the lines of silliussux or something like that

He was the original producer and co-designer of EverQuest, managing the development team from the project's inception until its launch. He then assumed the role of executive producer for the first few EverQuest expansions. He also was a founder of Verant Interactive and its Vice President. After Verant's acquisition by Sony Online Entertainment, Brad served there as Vice President of Premium Games responsible for EverQuest, EverQuest 2, EverQuest Online Adventures, PlanetSide, and Star Wars: Galaxies. In addition, Brad was the company's Chief Creative Officer.

After leaving SOE in October 2001, Brad took a short break and then co-founded Sigil Games Online. There he took on the role of CEO and co-executive-producer. The company began development of the massively multiplayer Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. They made a development deal first with Microsoft and then later with Sony Online Entertainment. Over the next five years Sigil grew to over 100 employees and in January of 2007, Sigil and SOE launched Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. Later that year Sigil sold both the company and Vanguard to Sony Online Entertainment.

After the sale, Brad decided to take an extended break from games development to pursue is his hobbies and to spend time with friends and family.

Brad next co-founded in May of 2010 a new start-up in the San Diego area. The new game studio focused on next generation sophisticated casual and social games. Unable to find the right amount of funding, but learning a lot about free-to-play gaming, Brad left the start-up in January 2012.

In February of 2012, Brad received an offer from John Smedley to return to SOE and work on a Vanguard re-launch. Extremely excited that Vanguard was going to receive another chance at success, Brad accepted the offer and joined the team as a Senior Game Designer. After a year on Vanguard, where he helped make the game F2P and revamped a number of regions, he was offered a position on EverQuest 1. Excited about the opportunity to return to another title he was involved with, he accepted the role as EQ Senior Gamer Designer in February 2013.

Brad left SOE in August 2013 as part of a huge RIF. With so many jobless developers in the area and so many exciting game design ideas in his head, Brad formed a new company, Visionary Realms, in September 2013. They immediately began development of a new, classic, challenging, group-focused MMO called Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen. Visionary Realms launched a Kickstarter site in January 2014
A lot of fail there. I also don't get why he seems to get sole credit for EQ when I thought it was a team of 5 or 6 guys that made it. In fact didn't Roger Uzun do most of the coding for it? I guess it's just hard for me to understand how you guys aren't more jaded. Brad has a completely 100% horrible track record outside of EQ which after the first few expansions he really didn't have much to do with anymore.

We are already behind you my man - get the word out elsewhere. We won't mind if we take a backseat.

BTW I think the 1 class per week thing is a weak strategy. Nobody is gonna get excited about 'the warrior' because everyone expects there to be one. I'd do all races one week, then all known classes the next, world map + concept dungeon map the next. Give news sites something juicy to report on. Single class blurbs aren't enough content to write an article about.
Agreed , along with other saying this , give us a bone maybe occasionally at night just to drop in , don't worry about reading everything here except when really have time. MMORPG to Massively to PCGamer to Reddit and so on need your love during the KS time. Once done abandon them and back to us neckbeards.

Also agreeing with Quaid on the don't do a class a week bit , something about it seems tried, old and boring. Do many at once , then races , then other aspects. Spice it up some , it's only 4-5 weeks anyway and they all need to count.

And my own personal addition , sitting down finally tonight after kids in bed and I've got a thread to catch up on here for a Brad Mcquaid game I''ve done my first KS of a decent amount with ,and watch a video for EQL for the alpha I've bought into from SOE. I feel like I'm in bizarro world, a good one , but still something I'd never have expected a little over 6 months ago.

You think the coders should get credit for EQ and not the designers?

Horrible track record? One of the leaders on EQ, kunark, and velious. Probably the three most universally loved (by this community) entries into the MMORPG space, and you are surprised by our support for his endeavor to create a spiritual successor?

Please explain...

There are a ton of things to get critical about. A bio that clearly states the titles and roles of the subject of the bio isn't one of them. He only seems to get full credit for EQ because you're a fucking moron who wants to think that. Why the fuck would he start taking about who did most of the coding, when Brad a) is probably not the lead coder on this project and b) doesn't claim credit as the lead coder on Everquest. It says in the bio that he was original producer and co-designer because that's what he was. Explain how it can cite him as CO-designer and your theory is he's taking full credit for the game.

Wait, what, he didn't have much to do with EQ after the first few expansions? So you can read! And you say that like it's a bad thing? EQ + first few expansions = awesomeness that has people excited for Pantheon.

We're plenty jaded. We're just not morons, so get critical about things worthy of critique... and getting critical about the Everquest portion of a bland bio isn't really that.

Also , even with the trainwreck VG ended up being , it still ranks as one of my favorite mmo's. So I know Brad has the idea of what kind of mmo is closest to the kind I want more than any other dev between EQ and VG.

I know.

This is the same Brad that wasted Microsoft's money, wasn't there when the Vanguard team got fired, went into hiding for a couple years refusing to post (when in times like this all he does is post) and already has a failed startup between Vanguard flopping and this right? I mean Sigil team members were saying Brad wasn't even around the studio for the last coupleyearsof development lol.

According to f13.net, "at approximately 4:30PM today, Sigil employees were told to meet outside. At which point they were terminated. On the spot." You can see the article atf13. I was able to get confirmation on this tonight from a couple of very reliable sources. So the company has now officially been driven into the ground. Here is what most people don't know, outside of Sigil. Brad McQuaid has been an absentee manager at Sigil for months. Not only has there been a leadership vacuum at Sigil, with the employees there left twisting in the wind, but I have been able to confirm that Brad hasn't even bothered to be at the office. Since last year. Reliable sources confirmed to me that Brad hasn't been at the Sigil offices save a couple of brief visits since December of last year. Whether or not he was supposed to be the creative force behind the game as we were lead to believe, he was the leader of Sigil and at a time when the game was under a deadline and his people (many of whom left promising or lucrative positions elsewhere to hitch their wagons to his star) were left to fend for themselves. That's right. When the **** was hitting the fan, and the game was under crunch, Brad went all Brian Wilson on his people.
Maybe it's a different Brad...

The amusing thing is if this thing funds , does even reasonably well, a low cost mmo Kickstarted makes money while the mega bucks , gov't backed , Shilling mmo went into being sold at bankruptcy auction.

Bit ironic.

Huh? He gave an interview a few days after and dedicated an entire blog about VG and what went wrong.. Not to mention his post here pretty much saying he was in a dark place. What else do you want? The guy deserves a second chance.. Most people do.

Brad,

Here are few concerns that I'm seeing on the Internet. Some people are still expressing concerns over some "old school" mechanics

  • They think you want this game to be an endless level grind
  • They think you will make it impossible to solo, rather than just group focused
  • They think this game is "hardcore only", whatever that means

Might be a few things to address in future updates or Q&A.
