None of the announced classes seem as interesting as the Blood Mage or Disciple from VG ... which are really the gold standard as best designed classes in an MMO ever to me.
That cause there in the dude wouldn't be cool if a tank could duel wield shields phase. .before the boss reads the idea and puts the kibosh on it.. there is no boss just pure unfiltered desperate spit balling..and the pole smoking fan bois love it

The part where it says "some have their shields turned into dangerous weapons". That part makes it sound like you have the option to go 24/7 dual wielding shields like the stupidest tank that ever taunted. The fact that they didn't specifically say it would be just a few abilities. Drop the "lorespeak" for a second when writing out a class design and describe a few abilities to help us picture how the class will work.
It states that a shield can be used as a deadly weapon. I don't know. I have no problem envisioning a tank using two shields to control his environment and maintain aggro.

Lol. You need a design document to comprehend how dual shields might work?

You claimed in this thread that you have played EVERY mmog. Yet you can not comprehend how a warrior might use dual shields? Like I said that is on you.
I have played almost every AAA MMO that has come out since 1999 and none of them have ever done it. No MMO that I can find has even used it as a gimmick ability that I can find. Prove me wrong, that is on you.
I think it is absolutely dumb. The amount of strength necessary to handle that in reality?

If it's just going to be a larger and flatter sword you are just looking for a skin on the sword that is a shield but it is still just a sword.

The combat design to make that interesting I can't even imagine. Come up with an idea and toss it out. Something that keeps both shields up at all times, isn't just a sword that is skinned like a shield because it is a digital game and not reality.

Conan can kill you with a shield but that should be an exception not a rule.

Except for Captain America.

...and maintain aggro.
Everyone rush the cleric in robes!

But boss, that guy with two shields called my dad an orc fucker, I think we should probably attack him, the one in full armor and TWO fucking shields!

It's a game, and a_skeleton_03 thinks it'll look and play stupid. Let it go.

Fair enough. I still think you may be embellishing the situation a bit when you say he was reading the book while actually tanking an encounter, but obviously I have no way to prove you wrong. I just can't really imagine that from my experience in EverQuest. Maybe the guy was in Fires of Heaven or Afterlife or something where killing those targets was such routine--such a breeze--that it required no mental effort at all.
It was fun to pull for a group or small raid as a warrior because you didn't have any tricks. Main tanking raid mobs in Velious, Luclin and Pop was stupid easy. The two major choices were: Defensive or Evasive (iirc, I only used evasive for Emperor Shreaaszzasnutz) and what program to watch on my TV. I never was much of a reader.

Challenge accepted.

This is the dark ages before phones had megapixel cameras on them, but you get the idea.

Haha. Yea I was going to add, I was in a top end raiding guild and our tanks said they did the same thing. That's why they were able to duel-box clerics so effectively.

Now fight somebody with a sword. See who wins. That tank will be tore up and dead on the ground in 3 minutes. Maybe less.
you don't bat at eye at a guy in a metal suit taking a full, direct hit of fire, from a fictional creature like a dragon no less, or necromancy, or elves, but upper body strength and weapon selection, thats your limit. k.

two shields is as realistic as someone brandishing two pistols, or shooting a carbine from the hip,but that shit is everywhere

With the double wield shields I think a cool idea would be you have two hot bars. One for your left hand and one for your right hand. So if you're using a slashing weapon in your left hand you get a UI bar with your various slashing weapon skills and a shield in your right hand you get a UI bar with your shield skills. Both UI bars (or "arms") have their own cooldowns. So if you're double wielding shields you could effectively use Shield Block / Shield Bash at twice the rate. Same concept if you double wield weapons.

Has something like that ever been implemented in an MMO?

Sure, but there was still stuff like positioning (in encounters where you couldn't just get stuck in a corner), dealing with knockback and stuff, watching enrage later in the fight. I rarely played a Warrior in raids, but even without the requirement to move around a ton and spam a bunch of hotkeys, I still would have been much too interested in how the encounter was going to go out of my way to read a book while it was happening. I'm not going to say it didn't happen, but that guy must have been in a guild for whom the encounter was completely trivial or something.

There was just a lot of downtime associated with raids. Shit, the setup and the buffs alone usually ended up taking 30-45 min. So yeah, there was a shit ton of time to read books between. But during the encounter? I doubt it.

even in non raid situations, when you were just farming a PH or something, there was a lot of waiting. Some of those pops were liek 20-30 min between.

Most of the knockback stuff didn't happen until later on, after I left, except for a few mobs that no one really farmed, like tunare in POG. I'm sure the raids from GoD on were more challenging for raid tanks, but from my whisky-ravaged memory being a good raid tank only required good gear, low lag and to be slightly more competent than Rain Man.

None of this crap really matters in the long run. It was a better class update but that's not saying much compared to what came before. Still no details on how the class plays, no details on the 'sub' classes, no details on when you would get to pick those classes, no details at all. And everyone else sees this, because this came out a couple hours ago and the KS needle hasn't moved at all.
