Pretty sure Sony posted a $450 million dollar profit last year... Their first profitable year since 2008 iirc.

Sony cuts profit outlook by 40 percent despite strong smartphone sales

The pictures division made an operating loss of ?17.8 billion yen ($181 million) despite slightly increased revenues; Sony notes the poor performance of White House Down compared with The Amazing Spider-Man, its equivalent blockbuster from this time last year. Sony's entertainment business is under increased scrutiny following CEO Kaz Hirai's high-profile decision to reject a spinoff proposal by investor Daniel Loeb.

Cuts to a profit outlook does not mean they are 'losing money'.

They lost 180 million last quarter. Current estimates range from a full year loss of 33.2 billion yen to positive 22 billion yen (around -250 to +200 million) depending, I guess on how the holiday picture slate goes.

More importantly Sony hired Bain & Co to help them slim down

Sony Entertainment Is Said to Hire Bain & Company for Cost-Cutting - NYTimes.com

Money can be saved by firing the entire SOE upper management team, getting out of the San Diego lease and moving key developers to other existing SCEA in other parts of California. Bain will figure this out given enough time and tell upper management at SCA.

SOE is under Sony Pitures read the pictures Division part when Spider Man was selling like hot cakes nobody gave a shit what SMED did
Not any more, I'm pretty sure it was split 50%/50% SP/SCEA and is now 100% under SCEA. But same point applies.

Would still love to see some numbers for SOE or SCEA to support this talk of these business units' financial performance.

I like how the topic has turned and nobody gives a fuck about Pantheon anymore.
By now, I think it's all been said, really. Maybe there will be more discussion when they roll out their in-depth look at combat.

I'm sure we'll also get the usual suspects (myself included) commenting on the next class reveal, but I think their hand is dealt for the moment.

The few thousand dollars per day that trickle in isn't really worthy of discussion.

I and few other people used to comb there QFR for years to get a feel on how much SOE is losing money (being ass hurt children over SWG and all) and we could never find a direct $$ for SOE it was always rolled in the Pitures profit good luck distilling that shit. every once in while they would say something in the phone call but only if it was good.. I wish you luck trying to find that.. Then again now that they moved over it might be easier but make no mistake it pucker time at Sony

No but it's probably worse. It's all about stock market BS. If you're losing money, but it was projected that way, no one gives a fuck. Look at Amazon.

The company I work for was projected for 17% or some stupid high number one year, but it ended up changing to 10%. Mass layoffs ensued, yet we setrecord profitsevery quarter that year.

Make sense? Meh. But that's how big business works.
