Come on dude, anyone with a brain saw this coming the day this thread was created. Nothing but a bunch of overly hopeful people posting in here from day one.
I'm not really sure why any of this is a big surprise. The reality is he hasn't really done anything great (in terms of game development) in 12-13 years (if your opinion that Velious was the last great EQ expansion). Vanguard was and will always be a black mark so what else is there? So now all of a sudden people think he's going to recapture the magic from 15 years ago. Perhaps people should ask what he was doing at SoE when he was rehired there.
I am cynical and critical of this project as much as the next guy but to chime in with some told you so the second the thread was started is some bullshit. The idea was solid, but you couldn't call bullshit until they showed all they had was some IHOP napkins with plans on them.
It's not about having a solid idea. I'm pretty sure you give me and five other forum members a solid day to come up with an "idea" and will have a pretty good one on paper. Unfortunately ideas are jack shit without execution, and yes considering Brad's track record and the immense amount of hype in this thread prior to ANYTHING really being released at all it was pretty easy to see coming.
Except that's exactly how they started the whole KS, and every entry on this forum and elsewhere read like a "dear diary" entry about why he should be trusted with our hopes, dreams and cash. (Despite the aforementioned terrible track record.) A lot of promises were made, including things that waffled back and forth just so he could appease anyone who was currently grilling him. And none of the ideas were solid. It was literally someone spitballing. If I had spent 20 minutes about the kind of game I wanted to make, I could do what he did. This is not bravado either. BECAUSE THAT IS LITERALLY WHAT HAPPENED.
And that's the problem in my mind. Yes they have good ideas and creativity but are they the group that can take care of the business side of creating a MMO(Managing time, money etc).
You don't have to sell me on this team being dogshit. I have been calling them out to the point some of the fanboys here hate me for shitting on their messiah, but I won't claim to have hated it before seeing the kickstarter which is what he was saying. Once the kickstarter dropped then sure.
The sad thing is if they find an investor/publisher for this failure then that's one less investor/publisher willing to take a chance on a group that deserves the money.
Oh, my mistake. Still though, if someone had told you that the chosen one of all MMOs was coming out and it was going to be led by this team, wouldn't you have been extremely critical and doubtful?
I didn't pay a dime to get into the forums. They are currently testing some stuff with their new site and overall the new site looks pretty good. They do plan on having some sort of subscription thing at some point but how it will work is to be determined.
Is there anybody out there. Just nod if you can hear me.. heh
