My daughter picked up on drinking right away. She could sip from a my glass of water at like 4-5 months. She took right to her sippy cup and used a straw the first time.

So odd not having to see her learn that, she just did it.
Our daughter was doing that too. Sippy cups were a little more of a challenge because she just wanted to bite on the spout. She's picked up on it now though.

Jealous, happy when I can get my 2 y/o son to eat anything more than chips/crackers/fruit or yogurt pouches/etc.

Next month we're going to start taking him to day care 3 days a week and hoping peer pressure helps reform his eating habits.
My wife has been on point giving our daughter different types of food.

She goes from eating Cottage Cheese + Tomatos + Cucumber to eating Pinapple, Strawberry and Kiwi. Then Lasagna. Then Chicken Rice and Beans to Salmon. Toss in things like Avacado and Bagels + Creamcheese. It's crazy.

I feel like a horrible parent... we don't get nearly that variety of foods in our house. Ugh...

Going to the store tonight!! Stepping the parent game up!!

Gotta say, it's kinda refreshing not having Izo in here telling people how to be a parent.

heh when the pedi asked what foods he ate/tried and I gave her the list she was like "he eats better than I do."

Kiddo eats sushi (sashimi - yellowtail specifically) like it won't be there if he stops. We took him (finally) to our favorite sushi place two weeks ago....it was a total scene. Kid's eating roe, sashimi, smoked salmon, miso soup, edamame....all with two teeth.

He loves scallop as well.

He's only got two teeth so he has to mash a bit but he gets it done. Steak, chicken, kale, duck, cheese, broccoli (broccoli is his favorite), zucchini, squash, peas, pasta, shrimp, eggs, black beans......kid also has a serious thing for potatoes and bread. He'll eat damn near any puree we put in front of him as well. We like Ellas, Plum Organics, Sprout, Oh Baby (Oh Baby pear+ginger is a great prune alternative and theirs also has ginger for upset tummies)

So if someone tells you "oh don't give them fruit purees, they'll never eat veggies".....don't listen to em. I think the key is variety. Though he's not a fan of raw tomatoes or blue cheese. If you only give them sweet stuff then obviously that's a problem but balance is great.

That's funny, my son lives on tomatoes it seems like. Banana for breakfast, leftovers or turkey sammich fixings, minus the bread, for lunch, and whatever we eat for dinner. He has an issue with steak and porkchops because even though he has most of his teeth, he doesn't appear to like to chew too terribly long, so he spits it back out. Since over 50% of our lunches/dinners have tomatoes, he probably eats minimum 1 per day. Overall he eats better than his mom and I do, since he gets all the good stuff, with none of the bad stuff (vanilla wafers only still, for treats). He looks like a little Adonis too haha makes me jealous. His shoulders, biceps, back, and calves are well muscled and defined, though he still has his baby belly. Dunno how much of that is us feeding him and making sure he gets lots of play time, and how much is just a baby phase, but it's pretty cool.

Ok maybe not so bad... he gets his lasagna, strawberries, bananas, etc. Haven't tried him on tomatoes, and it's been a while for cottage cheese.

I think it's amazing how you feed a baby their food, and it's only their food. Then before you know it, they are eating what you eat, and you realize... I eat like shit and I can't keep giving this to my baby.

So when did your kids start talking/saying words and what was the process like? I keep thinking that I'm hearing my daughter almost say words, but it's like half babble and half almost-words. My brain may be interpreting sounds because I want to hear words.

That's basically the point we are at. Kids been saying "mama" for over a month now(probably since 10 months), but that's the only thing he really says with a purpose, he cries mama when he's mad, or when she's coming in the door from work. Everything else is just babble/mimicking noises that we make, but he doesn't really know what the words mean. He'll say stuff like no-no, yeah-yeah, etc, but only after we do it. This is pretty funny, but I've had a cold for the past week with a lot of coughing, and every time I cough he makes a little coughing noise too, to mimic me.

Son is 18 months, and he doesn't talk yet. Every once in a bit we're sure we hear a word but... I dunno, we read 2-3 books every night, talk to him (not baby talk) ALL the time, etc. Guess everyone does it at their own pace. On the other hand, he understand us quite well, and I can tell him semi-complicated things to do and more often than not he'll do them.

Okay, I am looking for some baby monitor recommendations. Preferably from those who have purchased relatively recently. Pros, Cons, Price, feature wishlist, unneeded gimmicks?

I'd mention my video baby monitor that we had, but it was recently recalled for batteries blowing up or something.

However, I can 110% recommend a video monitor for at least the first 3-6 months of the babies life. It's so amazing.

Dropcam is free if you just want to watch it in real time. The paid service is only if you want to record footage to watch later (like a security camera)

Weve had a dropcam for a year now and is great. I love being able to check in on the kid from work or wherever via my phone or pc

Isn't there a way to turn old smartphones into baby cams? Wife dropped our current cam and while it still works as a sound monitor, the screen is all fucked up. Wouldn't mind turning a gnex into a cam.

Yeah there is but I don't know anything about it, just remember my brother telling me about it.

and joeboo is correct, no subscription for dropcam unless you want to record footage.
