I can't imagine that working out well, how does 1 highschool keep from being the "popular" one and everybody going there? One in particular is bound to be better at certain sports than others, all the athletes would want to go to that 1 highschool. My suburb has 3 highschools right now, and one of them has multiple recent state titles in Football. Every football player in the city would go there if they could choose.
That's pretty much how it works. It's fucking weird.

Typically, housing prices.

A house in Langley HS pyramid for 3k sq ft starts around 750-800k. Chantilly HS district (also very good)? 550-600k

our suburb (and it's sister suburb) are interesting because they contain two of the best K-8 elementary districts in the state of Illinois, but the high school is shared with 2 and a half other suburbs and it's pretty bad.

What lurkingdirk and Cad said are absolutely true. I'm glad my wife is a teacher (and my mom, and my mother in law) because I know our kids will get great support at home. My sister in law teaches at one of the most affluent school districts in the state and holy shit are parents a nightmare and doing exactly what Cad said.

Read his post, his town allows kids to go to any highschool of their choosing, regardless of where they live. It's not broken into geographical districts to where one area has to go to a certain school

This is how it is in NYC or at least it was when I went to school. I remember getting a book when I was in my last year of Jr. High which was a directory of all the High schools in the city, whether they were magnet, etc and you could apply to any of them. Granted I think you were always accepted into what was your 'base' school.

Down in NC, they used to have a thing call neighborhood busing, where some kids from low income areas were bused into high performing schools (elementary level). The problem with this is it made the 'popular' schools overcrowded, so what happens is people who moved to an area thinking they were going to that school wound up getting assigned to some other, usually lower performing school.

Cad, stop it. Highland park isn't the rule, it's an exception. And that exception is family money, or $250k+ combined family salary.

Well you're acting like Highland Park is an option for 90% of the populace looking for a good school for their kids. It's not, and not even close.
Way to knock down that strawman. I never said it was an option for everyone.

Baby somehow managed to call 911 today. Love getting a call from the police asking if everything is ok then getting lectured on keeping phones away from babies. Kids...

We went from sleeping all night to not quite waking up but fussing between midnight and two but not out of hunger i think he knows if he fusses he gets to come to bed, My wifes biggest complain right now is that i sleep through the baby whining or even light crying during the night and so she either has to take care of it or wake up to wake me up so i can address it. Anyone know how to become a lighter sleeper?

Do a stint in 'nam.

For me when I watch my nephews I tend to sleep on the couch because I know I wont sleep as deep/long. So if something happens and one of them has an asthma attack or sleep walks (my sister has some fucked up kids) I'm awake. When in bed I sleep like the dead. For you sleeping on the couch isnt an option, at least for however long it takes your kid to quite being fussy at night
Dont they make some sort of infant monitor that when the kid wakes up it sounds an alarm or something?

So my 8.5 month old daughter can now stand balanced on her own for 6-10 seconds before plopping down. Sometimes longer if she's not distracted. Can't crawl yet though. She's going to be running around the house in like a week.

And now comes the hard part! When they are super mobile. Good luck!

I loved when my son was in orangutan-mode, where he always had his arms up in the air to help him balance or something while walking. Now he's 13 months and I'm already occasionally missing the days when I could put him down in one spot, go take a piss, and come back to find him exactly where I left him. We bought thisBabies R Us Play Yard - Babies R Us - Toys Us, folded it at a 90 degree angle - 3 lengths to a side - touching the walls in our living room for a nice sized play area. It doesn't look very big, and it's not if you use it as a self-contained enclosure, but forming two sides of a square it provides our son a very nice sized space in our living room to safely play in. One of the best things we've gotten so far for our son. The other being a City Mini stroller, of course.

Ill have to look into that play yard, we have a livingroom that is recessed one step down on 2 sides that would make a perfect play area if we can block off those sides.

Had to share this Facebook status here, it made me lol.

Anyone have advice on how to deal with a 12 year old girl who was so upset by being grounded from Minecraft for the weekend that she called the trauma center?
My response was to get an audio copy of the phone call. She didn't appreciate it haha.

Oh not sure if I shared this with you guys but here's how awesome my youngest son is with going to bed. We converted his crib into a day bed so he can get in and out of it now. Well when he is put down for bed or when he wakes up in the morning he stays in it until someone comes in to get him. This has been going on for almost 3 months now. It's awesome.

Envy. We converted our crib to a day bed in part to try and change the bedtime tantrum routine. It just means he has less of a barrier unfortunately to throwing himself out of bed and then against the door. Leaving us the options of holding the door knob until he falls asleep on the floor at the door or giving in and taking him to our bed. Next up is then getting him into bed once he passes out - or - even more fun, basically restraining him until he snaps out of his tantrum and gives in to the idea of bedtime.

End result is we have a toddler in bed with us all night more often than not.

Mom is telling us to put the side of the crib back up and just tell him it's bedtime "it's what we do with naps and he only gets out once at most" but it's different with them because he doesn't really tantrum for naps.

Currently just running him out of steam which is anywhere between 9:30 and 11:30pm and then putting him in bed... I'm up anyways, but this is just something we're trying because we're both exhausted from the other methods and my 7 month pregnant wife being tired all the time is not a fun life to live
