has poe1 ever had 500k players at once? Over a month? poe1 ever still have 90k daily players 2 months into a league?

What's the cost to develop content for poe1? Poe2? How much of that cost is comingled and can't be easily separated?

Not all players are equal spenders. Poe1 has years of players spending history. Poe2 has one hyped-to-hell data point.

If they put a viable Auction House in PoE2 and work on the rest of the story, while revamping the "not very good" endgame system, there would be very little discussion for PoE1. PoE2 is half baked, and regretfully, was not what everyone had hoped it would be. The problem is they need the resources to actually work on all of that stuff. It is clear that they do not have the resources for both games. Either hire more people(Doubtful but a possibility) or sunset PoE1. It would mean players would have to wait 6 months to a year for PoE2 to hopefully catch up. In the long run though, it would be the better way to go. They gave consideration to PoE1 veterans by allowing the bank slots, some armor appearances and pet, to transfer over to PoE2. They could have just made players repay for all of that stuff again.

In the end, I think trying to keep both games open is going to hurt the money they get. Blizzard has probably had the same discussion over World of Warcraft many many times.

There's no way tencent is going to be okay with sunsetting the revenue stream that is PoE1.

Hilariously GGG had the answer within themselves this whole time. This mess would be a hell of a lot smaller if PoE1 and PoE2 were technically the same game with each campaign concluding with an identical or nearly identical endgame.

One of the things I hate most about poe2 are the loading times. I'm not sure if that's just a me problem but it really fucks with the UX when everything takes 5 seconds to load. Loading maps I get, even if it sucks, but why is pulling up any interface 10x slower in poe2?

Yes I'm running on nvme

How are they making money for the next couple of years?

PoE1 has basically been abandoned "until further notice" and PoE2 is barely half a game with a shit endgame. Anyone who believes whatever roadmap they might come up with for the foreseeable future has some serious problems. Sure there will always be the "We Trust in GGG" cult following, but there is no valid reason to give them any more money now.

At its core, PoE2 is just another version of their fanatical devotion to the Currency Grinder/Stock Market Simulator. I was hoping that they would pivot away somewhat, but I've already uninstalled and have no reason to ever play it again. Even if you fast forward 2 years and everything is "fixed" it will just end up being the same game I quit six years ago.

I don't think it matters how many are still playing PoE2. Still shiny, still new, but if they don't already worship the GGG model, then it's just a matter of time until they bounce like I did.

PoE 2 is not for me. I see a very dim future for PoE 1 if any at all, just the way it is. Oh well it was fun while it lasted.

Same here.

I think the game is going to change a lot when masses of players don't return to play leagues. Tencent will have predicted revenue streams based on PoE1 and when 2 doesn't hit them they're going to insist 2 changes to be more like 1. I suspect in four or five years they'll be much more similar games.

Yea it's quite unfortunate. PoE2 campaign act1-3 the first time was the best ARPG experience I've ever had. Followed by endless mediocrity and then a completely boring end-game. Combined with the lack of updates, I just don't care about it any more. Maybe a year or two from now it'll pick back up?

Well, there's also the fact they likely devoted resources BACK to PoE1 from PoE2, because of all the PoE1 Andy's whining and crying about, "Muh boat league is too old!!! Fix your game, GGG!!".

This will be the constant tug of war until they finally realize they need to abandon PoE1. Let people whine and cry that a 2 week old game isn't going to have the same level of content as a 12 year old game. They'll come around. What else are they going to play? D4? LMAO.

The POE "ecosystem" needs to have some sort of new league/reset/whatever the fuck you want to call it every 3 or 4 months to keep the player base busy. How they split that up between both games is on them. One month of Phrecia followed by a reset and a couple new classes/ascendancies in POE2 should buy them some more time to figure out what it is they want to do as right now it seems they still don't have a clue.

That's exactly how PoE 1 was FYI.

There were even complaints about Sarn being too big like there are about the Vaal city, several Act 8 zones used to be in Act 3 (2 extra sewers, warehouse district).

So abandon a perfectly functioning and finished game in favor of a broken unfinished game? Sometimes I wonder if you try to one up your own retardedness.

PoE 2 is just better than PoE 1 in technology, the game looks and plays better. The game play may be missing a few things but it's also missing the bloat.

I'm playing PoE 1 right now, I can see it.

Uhh..yes?

Or should Blizzard have kept D1 running in perpetuity rather than work on D2?

Just because the game isn't receiving ULTRA FRESH new content updates every 3 months doesn't mean the game has to be completely shut down. But devoting dev resources on NEW content development for a game we all know people are going to flee from once PoE2 gets content? Fuck that. Rip the bandaid off sooner rather than later. You're just hurting both products this way.

PoE1 and PoE2 are GAAS. D1 and D2 were not. Infrequent updates is effectively the same as shutting the servers down. Nobody buys supporter packs for a game that isn't receiving content.

I'm betting GGG does not have the operating capital to do as you suggest.

I shouldn't say because you don't know if Chris just decided enough was enough or whatever reason. But when Jonathon does a video after the first annoucement he looks like someone that stepped off in the deep end of the pool by accident.

Right, which is why you move them all over to the PoE2 ecosystem of MTX, because now you're able to churn out content at a relatively decent pace, rather than half-assing content for BOTH games.

There's a reason they wanted to just integrate PoE1+2 into one game initially. But all the crybabies who can't ever let go of anything digital reeeeeed enough to get them to drop that idea and people naively believed they'd be able to support both games at the same pace as they support 1.
