What was the replacement available for cold dots? Also, lots of people conveniently forgetting cold dot lost bonechill.

All those words aren't making me feel better about my builds in pob. I update them and there's just too many holes to patch. SST has good DPS and ehp, but chugs mana. Traps have good damage but chug mana or all my life sustain. Holy flame totems DPS sitting at paltry amounts. Forbidden Rite totems are fucking slow. Corrupted Fever straight up murdered.

Like butter scraped over too much bread.
I managed to figure out a SST build where the mana regen at least works on paper, dunno if it will actually be smooth in practice with like 150 unreserved mana. Lets me use my favorite HC item combo of Cerberus Limb + Magna Eclipsis to get 2k armor, 100 life, and 400 ES from the same shield.

Forbidden rite is only good if the secondary projectiles and the explosion from one cast can hit the same target. Otherwise, it's only slightly better scaling than Dark Pact (12% of life to damage vs. 6% of life to damage and 76% more) and that's never been good. Self cast lets you use Rite with CI which doesn't work with Dark Pact but at 5% it's not that great.

Hey don't jinx it. I even want it to target hydrosphere. Winter orb does so i imagine it will.

Meh. They’ve obliterated all trigger builds. I still can’t get cospri and CoC Ice nova to feel fun. There are other ways of balancing that and SS instead of dumpstering it. I don’t mind meta shifts. I just get tired of wholesell build archetypes getting dumpstered.

The reddit crowd really are a bunch of weak willed spastics. Chris posts, it's all thanks for the communication and hey Chris that's great, GGG are amazing cause the CEO posts straight to the masses. No fucking spine whatsoever.

Naw GGG is the one with no spine here. If they actually have a vision for the game that requires these changes than stick to your fucking guns, take your lumps on your player numbers for a league or whatever, and do what they think is necessary for the long term health of the game.

This fucking milquetoast shit of Chris writing another novel about stuff they already wrote a novel about and walking back changes before they even get implemented is the worst of all outcomes.

Did I miss any big reversals? Just saw the comment about Hypothermia, even with a clear "we will do that at a later time", and changing the decision on one gem while they have this huge pile of nerfs doesn't seem like walking back on it.

Why wouldn't it? They showed it doing that in the video.

Dark pact totems already did omega damage, so with the new one scaling slightly better and having actual projectiles with the potential for two hits against bosses then damage is gonna be through the roof.

Just gotta deal with being a totem build heh.

I added "110% more damage over time" to the chest because PoB still has the old 20% poison damage instead of 30% and there's no option to enable the cruelty buff.

Someone made a brief comment about FOMO and it hit the nail on the head for me. Unless you are completely immune to FOMO style logical fallacies, this game is now designed to just rip you apart. From organizing your atlas, to having to constantly break from mapping to do XYZ, the whole thing is a non-stop FOMO rollercoaster.

I consider myself well rounded and strong against a lot of logical fallacies, but really, only psychopaths' are immune to things like that. Playing path of exile, what use to be my favorite mindless game that I could play for 12 hours a day (pre child of course), now just gives me anxiety.

I think that's pretty over the top, I doubt the majority of people see it like that. Maybe you aren't as strong against it as you believe. Having too much shit to do in "games as a service" type games is in pretty much everything.

Maybe I'm just a psychopath, the odds aren't that bad I guess. But I don't think twice about skipping things I don't feel like doing while mapping, regardless of their potential value.

Why would you get FOMO about a bunch of virtual shit that just ends up on standard in 3 months? I don't get it all, I used to back when I raided in MMOs, but as I've got older I care less every passing year about stupid crap that doesn't affect me in reality.

Arpgs using a seasonal approach are just leveraging FOMO and PoE made it the best (worst?) endgame for it. I suffer for it bad. Did in MMOs. Tried raiding in SWTOR and WoW at same time back in 2011 while juggling GW2 because of FOMO. It’s the worst fallacy for gamers imo.

I’d say my FOMO is missing out on some cool skill that’s going to be nerfed. Or some unique that gets destroyed or missing out on some reward.

MMOs it was this feeling of missing out on current content.

I broke this feeling for MMOs other than missing xpac launches. PoE gave it to me badly for a while.

We care more about making a good game than we do about vanity metrics like player concurrency records. I suspect this is because we're gamers first and businesspeople second. The direction Path of Exile was going in over the last year was breaking player records but wasn't really leaving us happy with our own game.

The sheer depths of hubris in this statement is phenomenal.

Our game has been growing and is wildly successful, but it doesn't fit the original premise of what I wanted, so we are going to make changes to what is actually making it successful to fit what I want it to be, and fuck the consequences.

Holeee shit, that is some next level big brain strategy there. I figure BLM flags, selectable pronouns and tranny NPCs are next.

Hey, Chris, you know you are making a "new" game, right? You could do all that in said new game.

Again, I really feel like this is all being done to push people into PoE 2.

In Ultimatum I felt obligated to do the atlas in a more focused way to acquire the Maven region passive points rather than just derping about and it made it all less enjoyable for me. It felt like I'm now doing a bunch of work to set things up how I like them so I can then do the things I want to do. That change of objectives makes everything that builds up to getting the region finished feel like a chore. It's the thing I need to get out of the way because If I'm doing maps in regions without all the passives then I'm clearly missing out.

I'm going to try and not get suckered in to that this league.

I am a recent addict of War Thunder.

I went and tried World of Tanks, and the main menus of that game are so retardedly busy and confusing and convoluted that at first I just wanted to run away. Click here for bonus! Go here for new season! Click here for game modes! Look at this store! What about this daily reward! How about fuck off already.

Tablet games have fucked PC games with this Games as a Service and the FOMO daily logins and tasks, weekly rewards, monthly bonuses, premium accounts, tiers of currency, etc etc etc.

It really is psychological manipulation of the Skinner box, carrot on a stick, addiction etc etc in every human, especially ones that like vidya games.

I like my shots of happy chemicals. What happens when one of your sources of Happy Drugs decides to dramatically reduce the drip? You go through detox or you find another source.

I really think Chris has finally gone of the Deep End this time. Or, 6d strategy for PoE2. Either way, I am disappoint.

Replying to my own post, speaking of hubris. Anyway, in lieu of just quoting.

I think everyone thought the game was going to go to shit when TenCent bought them out. The game had some nerfs since then but certainly the zoom zoom increased, all in accordance to what one would have thought the Chinese Overlords wanted.

This new direction does not seem intent on retaining a paying playerbase, and I wonder at TenCent liking this strategy? I mean, do they even care about the Western version, since it is distinctly different from the Pay to Win available merch in the Eastern version?

Anyway, thought I would mention that, since Chris is not really The Big Boss anymore.

The Eastern version's the same as the western version isn't it? Apart from a few items and mechanics with trading? They have the same leagues as we do.

Guessing that if 2-3 leagues repeatedly see a large drop in players and sales then his head would be on the chopping block. Fuck knows who they'd replace him with, probably someone from within the NZ studio. Tencent would have left themselves a million ways to oust anybody they wanted from the OG GGG team, shareholders or not, that's just the smart business play.

Whilst it's a good move to get rid of Chris, it's a bit of a double-edged sword.
