Not exactly what I had in mind about a "jewel socket" system, most people wanted runewords, myself included.

I mean, it's nice that they added jewels to turn str/dex/int nodes into shit you might actually need but I feel like the PoE skill tree is already such a daunting clusterfuck to begin with and it is complicated for no reason, to further added more complexity(complication) to it might be a bad idea, when its quite obvious theres only a few slots most of these gems are going to really work in and from what the video showed me, theres only a few sockets in the entire tree, so... Yeah.

The netcode revamp sounds like the best thing about the expansion if it means saying good bye to de-sync.

A full revamp of the act's was definitely needed and it's always better to have more shit to do, hopefully it wont be just another step to maps.

The fire/ice golem/elementals look pretty worthless but who knows, the video I watched didnt show them being anything but possibly a burn/freeze setup for skills because they certainly didn't seem to be doing much damage and randomly running all over the place.

Chris Wilson is really bad at PoE.

The screen didn't do the passives in aoe UI changes justice though, it looks like nothing, but then when you see it in the videos, the nodes affected actually pulse, so there's a state where they look normal, but you can clearly see which node is affected in a video because they're the ones that glow.

Some of these unique jewels look so fucking interesting too. Stuff like making the nodes affect your minions instead, or making melee stuff into bow stuff, taking nodes not connected(sound so OP, shit's gonna be like 2exalted+ I think since it can save you like 5-6 skillpoints to grab some nodes) or turning int nodes into chaos damage increase(which should enable chaos conversion builds a lot more, including one with that new dagger). And even if you don't have the unique jewels, you can use rare jewels that seem to have better stats than pretty much any nodes of the same type. Though I guess at the same time, you'll need to actually roll a good jewel first when using rares. Seems what you get is random as shit, but eh that's PoE.

Really looking forward to playing all that shit. The fire and ice golems looked fairly weak and more like utility pets like spectres you don't have to summon, but they haven't really shown chaos golem and we don't know how well those golems were leveled/supported either. I hope they don't suck too much.

The desync new mode looks interesting too, I wonder if I'll be able to play that at a decent rate, we'll see I guess. I assume a lag spike would look a fuckton worse in that mode though.

A little disappointed that 2+ years in development gets us closed beta and areductionin desync.

Stopped playing PoE because it seemed like the hardcore league was "dead". Most of the time it was crickets and had to play solo, which is ok sometimes but I like to trade too. I'd probably give it another shot if this patch helps bring back people to hardcore.

Oh and release this for PS4, yeah that'd be great.

This release is going to bring a lot of people in (returning, and new players). I'm expecting a big boost in PoE's population.

It won't make the HC league fill up though. Hardcore players pretty much only play the temporary leagues, softcore players are split between new leagues and standard. If you play HC and you want to see people, you really want to play the current HC league. There's actually a lot of people playing those everytime, though I guess at the end of long leagues they might be quite a bit deader.

I assumed by hardcore league he meant the current temporary hardcore league. I forgot the standard hardcore league even existed, or that anyone actually played it with temporary leagues being present. Yea, to that respect, I don't think many people are going to be playing the standard leagues (original standard/hardcore leagues). Probably more people then usual just due to the influx of people playing the game for the new act 4 release, but no where comparable to whatever 4 month or 1 month league is present.

Anyways, the new jewels for the passive tree have me on the fence. It almost seems like complexity just for the sake of complexity. I dunno, I guess I'll have to see it in action, maybe it'll add another dimension to the game, maybe it'll become just one more barrier for entry into the top level of game play. Guess we'll find out.

Historically the population breakdown has always been predominately short-term leagues, followed by ~20 percent in softcore, and ~1 percent in hardcore. Hardcore players typically take a shorter-term view of loot so the idea of a permanent league in which they can build up a dragon's horde over years isn't going to appeal as much as pushing the envelope in a high difficulty HC environment.

Agree with your thoughts re: jewels Ryanz.

No release date ?
They don't know how long the beta will last. They said most likely 6-8weeks though, so it's quite far off. Hope they do pay to beta with the new packs after the initial wave of invites if I don't get in. I was planning to buy a pack anyway so that'd be nice.

I'm wondering what to do with all my stuff on standard now. I think I want to continue playing standard into the expansion as well (although all my friends will roll the new temp hc league and I'll join them there for the start) and I'm wondering if the items I've amassed will still be amazing, or if I should just dump it all for currency.

Like, I bet my Shav's will be worth keeping, but what about Mj?lner? What about godly mirrored rares (I don't have any) - seeing as there'll likely be new items, will they trump their itemlevel?

They say they've had many expansions to the game (I would call them patches) but this seems to be the first real expansion, and if Diablo 2 (or 3) was any indication, the new drops will pretty much beat out the old in every way.

I wonder mainly because on one hand, it'd be awesome to have as big an exalt bulk as possible for new drops when the time comes, but on the other hand I really want to trade everything and make a low life spectral throw character right now...

It's likely there's gonna be higher ilvls, so rares might not be worth as much. Then again that's only for the really top end stuff, and even then it'll still be valuable, less so though. For the uniques, no one can tell. They generally stay constant or increase in price, unless they're directly nerfed, but that doesn't happen that often.

The new uniques won't necessarily be better overall. They'll be better for specific builds, because that's how uniques work. I'd be surprised if they added like a "stronger shav" or something. There isn't a need to add a unique that does the same thing as another, regardless of expansion, new act or what not. It defeats the purpose. They might add a unique chest that's better for low life ES builds but only for specific ones though, for example one that improves melee damage but reduces spell/ranged damage or whatever and happens to be better at the low life thing than Shav, but only for melee builds. That'd be an acceptable new unique, but it wouldn't reduce the value of Shav.

Besides that, I don't know, I don't play standard, in fact I mostly delete my chars on standard. I think I have some decent stuff in my stash, but decent is like self found first month of HC league decent, so it's garbage for SC really, I just figured if I made a char on standard one day I'd want my best items that got sent there to build upon. It's a nice way to welcome the patches and nerfs imo, I'm never attached to any specific character or build, because they only last as long as the leagues, and after that they might as well be gone. I just make something new based on what's available at that point and looks fun. I made SRS and Tornado Shot for the 1month cause I never played with either skill before(they weren't in the game last time I played), it was fun.

They said there will be more endgame maps with better scaling, so we might end up with lvl 75+ maps being much more common. I'm a bit bummed out that they will simply wipe the beta, but that's probably the only sane option with the beta being closed.
