beta shields are godly.
All sorts of awesome mods. dodge, move speed, attack damage. Hybrid shields with ES, can get spell damage, crit as well.

Aug. 4th 3.0 release.

Hmmm, really surprised it's early August. Good for them if they can do it without (many) bugs.

I'm assuming this means whatever league is next is NOT starting then?

Can't believe I already have that week scheduled off for vacation. If I can manage to accomplish most of my baby prepping around the house quick enough I might actually have time to veg out on this for a week :D

Better get all your gaming in while that kid is still in utero; your playing time gets cut by 75% until they start crawling... then it is cut by 90%.

Since the release is on a tuesday, I assume they release the patch on tuesday and the league on friday as usual, giving them a few days to fix any massive issues due to launch, maybe. But they haven't said so not sure.

Seems like good timing for me, I think I'll be done with FFXIV by the time this releases, I just need to figure out what non summoner build I'm going to do this time cause playing summoners every time gets boring especially since they never fix the goddamn issues. But then again they might last minute fuck that plan with a new summoner skill or whatever so we'll see I guess.

Yeah I thought I was going to go Sunder Raider(like everyone else on the planet), but the new skills....damn. I'd wait to see what we get before I decided.

I'm looking to get back into PoE when the new patch/league drops. Only played one serious character previously - my own build and it ended up being a bit of a slog in the late game with lots of deaths and eventually hitting a wall when I got to Guardians.

I'd like to actually play a real build this time around so I can finish all the content. Ideally I'm interested in playing whatever is the latest meta/OP build just to experience what the top end of this game feels like. Any advice on what I might want to look at in this regard? Or is it too early to say with all the changes that are forthcoming?

Will probably be a few weeks into 3.0 that the 'pro's' figure out what the new meta is. And honestly, as a new player coming in there are a few different types of meta categories.

You're going to want to be browsing the forums looking for a very low budget but good clear speed build. They'll have them for all classes so you still get good diversity depending on your play style. After you get that build up and running and start to farm and form a budget, you figure out what 'true meta' build you can afford. These builds range from a few ex to 20-30+++ ex so you have to sort of shop around on the forums for what build you can afford.

Your first couple chars and hell, first couple seasons playing, will be a learning experience and you'll really start to figure out how to level up early and what to pick up / sell to start making money quick early in the season so you can get to that build you've been eyeing. I've played almost every season and I feel like it's just been my last few that I've come into my own and work my way up to a 20ex build or so, typically starting with a low budget money making build and making a new char once I get enough saved up.

Also, some builds on the forums you can watch out for are one's that scale big time, so they work well on a budget but there are a lot of expensive items that will send em through the roof.

All signs point to life meta with shields and a 1h, Sunder fills that perfectly, but we might see facebreakers show up. Blade flurry could also make a comeback. If you don't mind grouping up, necros will be as good as ever and Shav's might actually be affordable this time around.

Played sunder for Turmoil, so going to try something else for the next league. Probably a bow pathfinder(or raider depending on how the flask rebalancing goes). Can't decide on which bow skills to use: shrapnel, tornado, or lightning arrow(with barrage for single target).

havent seen much change for bow builds.
Should be fine still. I find barrage swap to be unnecessary with TS. probably LA as well.

one small secret with bows is kaoms heart. Since bows give the possibility of 2 6l, the reality is no bow build needs 2 6l's. especially with something strong single and aoe, like Tornado shot.
so, get your 6l bow, and run kaoms. have your ranged dps and your 8k life as well.
Even works with signal fire well.

Lightning arrow single target doesn't seem that great.

I was going to try a QoTF since bow builds can't utilize any of the 4 main movement skills for getting around. But, my realistic life total is only coming out to 5k - 5.5k, so I might do a Kaom's instead.

Blink arrows feels similar to lightning warp during actual play. I would slot that, if only for bridging gaps.

BA is much better then lit warp.
BA will teleport you to location when the projectile lands. So Faster attacks and proj speed are key. which tend to be normal passives, thus not required to specially slot for much.
Then leaves a clone which holds your previous aggro. While not a taunt, if you were being targeted prior to blink, the clone will hold your aggro.
BA can be used to dodge izaro/argus/etc attacks quite easy.

My luck, I was 1h shield sunder during legacy. Shavs will definitely be affordable. During the last meta I had one drop and was so stoked before pricing it and realizing it was only like 20c.
