The people who want to go back to pre 3.9 level of "map sustain" have way too much fucking time on their hands. For all of its faults, that was by far the best change of the last league. Finally being able to just run whatever maps I wanted was such a fucking relief. Allowed me to see a lot of maps I had never, ever touched, because I was stuck running some combo of 3-4 maps over and fucking over again. Sure, there's obviously ways to be more efficient and "min/max" maps in terms of how long they take vs. reward, but it was nice to be able to check out a new map here and there without completely fucking my sustain.

Those people don't care about the sustain they care about one thing and that is shaping their atlas so only a single map they like drops. That is what their entire game revolves around, running the same map 1,000 times.

Those people suck.

Saying map sustain was too easy in 3.9 is not the same as wanting to go back to old methods of sustain.

It shouldn't simply be "not easy", but 3.9 devalued other content too much. I hope they find a middle ground there.

And regarding your "I have played so many maps I never saw before" point, that came about because of the Conquerors of the Atlas revamp. With that you get most maps way earlier than in the old design thanks to them being available at various tiers. It does not have much to do with the drop rate of maps in general.

Because the old method allowed for choices. There was a strategy to shaping your atlas. Indirectly, it became part of your character's progression. More like your account, but whatever.

I'm not going to deny there are downsides to the old implementation. I just want back that feeling of investment. Transmute and go for map sustain is not a good feeling.

I would disagree. Transmute and go was part of why 3.9 felt so great. There's already 48 other "end-game" areas I can invest in (some of which I'm forced to) and not having to worry much about one of those aspects anymore was very refreshing. Then again, I'm only a 15-20ish hours a week type of player, which more and more seems like the type of player GGG isn't really aiming for.

I had a build that dealt with one specific map very well (Precinct) and I ran it probably 200 times. I know that is not enough to be considered even medium-core but this is only my 4th full league and I don't have infinite amounts of time.

That being said, I traded for almost all of those maps and actually found it much easier since I was selling my T16's in bulk to fund the purchases. The only downside was the obvious trading issues that have plagued this game since forever. Everything else about the mapping felt better this league than any other.

They could fix almost all the trading problems with an Auction House.

They add an auction house and I'd have a really hard time justifying playing much else with my free-time. Aside from breaks here and there towards the end of a league or for major game releases, I really wouldn't play much else.

You've been playing this game for how long? I started in Breach league, I remember what map sustain used to be like. The game has only gotten less grindy since. I don't see how you can make that claim, GGG is absolutely aiming for 15-20 hour/week players. Daddy Tencent wants their cut.

You can make something non-tedious while still preserving QoL. It's likely very tricky, look how much they've waffled on sextants recently. But I think ending up in the state where the player gives absolutely no thought towards any primary game system not ok.

I agree with this completely. I cannot even fathom a serious argument that they could post that would make an auction house seem less appealing.

I told a friend yesterday that I would immediately buy $100 supporter pack when they announce an auction house. I stand by that.

Are you talking about D3? Because if they would have ditched just the RMAH while keep the gold AH then it would have been little bit more accurate an example. POE, however, would have a much more varied and better AH because of the wealth of currencies and how they interact with items. D3 and its one currency is a joke in comparison. The closest historic AH we have would probably be WoW and that was a revelation in its time before Blizzard puckered up and made a ton of items BoP instead of just making everything BoE and letting the market decide.

My question would be - how would an AH in PoE be a negative thing?

I'm not sure varied currency really matters here as everything is pegged to the chaos orb already.

My recollection is that the AH in D3 made it feel like you were buying your gear instead of getting it yourself. Yes, that is already an issue with POE. Maybe making it easier is not the thing to do though.

An AH would make it easier for market manipulators to do their job.

I've been playing since around Breach or the one right before that (Nemesis?). Obviously I've skipped a few leagues here and there (Blight and Delve) and only played others a few days before checking out (Bestiary and Synthesis). The game has absolutely not gotten less grindy in that time. With basically every new league (and their insistence on bringing almost all of them core), I have yet another gameplay aspect I have to focus on or at least consider. People keep saying, "JUST SKIPP IT LUZL!!!!", as if you can just skip fucking annointing, or unveiling, etc. Sure, you can skip shit like Incursion (especially since it's outdated and sucks for the time investment now - yet another example why leagues need to rotate out), but I felt like 3.9 was the first league since I started playing to actually make an attempt at reducing some of the investment necessary in end-game systems.

I don't understand how this is an issues since this is exactly what the trade sites do AND GGG has made it a part of the game by tailoring item drops such that a single player is never going to be able to farm specific items, maps, or currencies to any successful level without doing some insanely high level strats. D3's problem was that they intentionally nerfed all loot drops to drive people to the RMAH; if they simply would have increased drop rates and trashed the RMAH while leaving the gold AH in tact then it would have been fine. Either grind gold to get the tiny but expensive upgrade or grind the game to find it yourself. I am positive that everyone in this thread likes the idea of converting currency earned into guaranteed upgrades because that feels like time well spent on progression.

You forget that Blizzard massaged drop rates to make people use the RMAH from the very beginning.

As long as GGG leaves the drop rates alone, having an AH (or something fucking similar that I don't have to spam 20 messages to find someone who thinks it is worth their time to trade chaos for exalts) seems like it would fix a ton of issues without having much of a downside.

I don't have a problem with SSF. Don't expect GGG to directly design for it though.
