True or not, what else exactly are they going to say? "you guys should quit spending money on us now!" I don't think PS2 will see large employee cuts until after PS4 version of PS2 is released.

Then the AXE will fall for them.

Was a nice little patch when I got on this morning but no mention of what it was for on the launcher, I'm guessing it was more optimization patches?

Seems like a partial fix to SLI. Sure wish they would announce what they did because it had something to do with it.

This is relevant to my interests, I'm running two older cards in SLI (GTX 580s). In FF14 they're both showing 90% useage, PS2? Both around 20% and the framerate shows :p

I have a thin hypothesis on the shots not registering thing. Almost every time I've ever played I've either been lazy and hit instant action or just jumped in someone's galaxy or something. This has almost always resulted in running into TR first as either way seems to land you on Indar. If I later find myself in a fight against NC, I get a large slowdown while the game loads up all of the nc soldiers armor textures and whatnot that are nearby.

I had never really thought about it, but the NC always seemed to take a few extra shots to kill. And I always got a few of those where I'd have a quick gun duel and when I died the other guy would be completely undamaged.

Last night, I think for the first time, I ran into the NC first, and fought them for awhile before running into TR. This time it was the other way around, the NC actually died when I shot them for the first time I can remember. Then later when I got to TR held lands they were seemingly supertough and shooting me through walls and all the other crap described in posts above.

I've no idea why one would cause the other, and probably the fix is just to log out and log back in whenever you encounter new enemies.

Had a good run yesterday of not getting "desynched" I thought maybe that patch did something. Didn't take long for it to happen today though, so who knows.

That is an interesting hypothesis Kharza, but I played for about 1.5 hours at a base that was damn near perfectly split as a three-way fight (and was awesome fun too) yet had no issues yesterday, so again, who knows heh

One idea I just had (after much beer) is that maybe they use ping to set the time to predict forward on both sides. This is similar to the pushlatency setting in old quakeworld. So maybe a big freeze up (like loading a ton of textures when spawning in a base vs new opponents) can cause it to drift upward, but they never bring it back down again.

I can't wait until this game is optimized properly :s it still runs like shit and my machine is only a year and half years old. I'd like to be able to snipe when I'm feeling like a lazy bitch but there's really no point in doing it.

I know the game still uses an inordinate amount of CPU, while leaving the GPU twiddling it's thumbs, and this *does* point to possible optimizations. However, as I understand it, it will *always* use significantly higher CPU as it crunches numbers about what everyone else around you is doing.

And then you add in a clear NVIDIA bias, and AMD users are in line for further optimizations. I'm told the engine was built around NVIDIA from day one, so not really sure how much love AMD can get.

ALL of that being said, it still feels like some people here and on other forums are waiting for a pipedream and/or are using 'optimized" incorrectly. This game will never ever be butter smooth, single player smooth. Hell, it'll never even be small squad online shooter smooth.

Add in all the "trust the client" and latency hiding techniques and you just never get to that holy grail.

Even IF the engine isn't holding them back, this is SOE, they can't/WON'T afford to put the man hours into it.

The optimization has little to do with the client in my opinion. The game bogs down once tons of action happens (network traffic) and it doesn't matter how nice your machine. High end PCs all hit this magical wall where everybody gets the same maximum frame rate that reminds me of my TF2 community's 2 minute spam rocket launcher round where were have machine gun kritzkrieg rockets. The game churns out maybe 40 frames max on any computer, down from 120 and is exactly what happens to planetside. I get the same minimum frame rate no matter what my graphical settings may be.

Planetside 2 is in for a rude awakening in a month when BF4 early access beta comes out. PS2 has very little going for it compared to BF4. I tried to hold out for Battle Islands, but I don't believe they will be out before BF4's beta.

The problem for BF4 is if it's anything like BF3 it'll be a snoozefest in 3 months. Don't get me wrong I am pumped for it.

Infantry and armor combat has een a snoozefest the whole time PS2 has existed. It is some of the worst shooter mechanics I have ever experienced. Thats coming from a person who enjoyed the shooter explosion during the 90's PC boom.

Now ESF and daltoning people has been a high point. But I truely believe we enjoy it because of the lulz and hate messages we receive daily. My gunner is named SashaGrey. How degrading is it to constantly get shot ot of the air in an ESF from somebody named after a pornstar.

And atleast BF4 has a winning condition. One year into PS2 and there still isn't a reason to take territory. I have flown since day one and anything I do has nothing to do with "Winning" and more to do with pure enjoyment caused at that expense of others. I'm farming people's souls day in and day out. Its boring, dreadfully boring.
