Been considering picking this up, but I am wondering if Fortnite is going to take this genre over.

It won't as long as there isn't an FPS option, but Fortnite is a really good game still.

Honestly I'd wait until launch on the 20th, the game is in a poor state right now and extremely unoptimized but the test servers are running really good. I still think the game was most definitely worth my 30$ but that's because I had a group of friends to play with. Solo is still fun but I personally feel that PUBG really shines when doing squad games. Definitely worth the money when 1.0 launches imo.

I will say though, it feels a lot more clunky than Fortnite does so if you think you'll find that annoying then might not be worth it for you. Both are good games though for sure.
