I had to do a quick search of old news to get a measure of how many units were available on launch day for other consoles. All numbers are North America unless specified otherwise.
Nintendo 64 = 350k sold over first four days, 500k sold over the initial 4 month launch (production backlog)
Nintendo Gamecube = 700k shipped for launch day
Nintendo Wii = U.S.: 600K in North America in 8 days,
Sega Dreamcast = U.S.: 500K in two weeks (including 225,132 sold in 24 hours)
Xbox = 1M sold during the first month
Xbox 360 = U.S.: 326,000 units in ~2 weeks (40k of which ended up on eBay) 900k by x-mas a month later
Xbox One = 1M sold first day worldwide, 3M during first month worldwide
Playstation 1 = 100k sold first day
Playstation 2 = 500k sold first day with 100k each week thereafter thru x-mas
Playstation 3 = U.S.: 197K in two weeks (400K shipped)
Playstation 4 = 1M sold first day with 3M sold through xmas a month later
So it looks like the numbers for PS5 and XSeX are at least within the general trendline established over time.
Or you could just stream a new SSF Rogue.Trying to get one of these basically just to play Demon’s Souls on launch day.

Honestly the xsex is looking more and more like the better option if it weren’t for the first party Sony studios.Didn’t think ms all access would make it in eurocuckistan, but it has. Feck, I may get an xsx too.
It took Sony 3 years and Microsoft 4 years for that to happen last time. I figure that's a good time to be trading the day one versions in for a new warranty anyway.the inevitable improved version 2.0 of these consoles that will come out in a year or two
I have bought every generation console since the 16 bit days but I think I'm gonna sit this one out. I want to play Demon Souls but I will probably wait for the inevitable improved version 2.0 of these consoles that will come out in a year or two. It's weird, I'm usually excited for console launches and this time I'm just not.
So what sold you on the launch PS4? Was it Knack or Killzone?Having every real major system since growing up with the NES, I feel the same way.
Every generation, the excitement has mounted to get a new system and enjoy all the new titles, but this generation is so different.
It appears that instead of getting a ton of new games to play, we will be getting the same titles as the current generation with no real discernable upgrades. Majority of all the titles announced on eithwr system are either remakes or ports of old games. I have seen nothing on PS5 or the new Xbox that couldn't currently be done on current systems or a mid range pc.
