Should I evolve that hatched eevee into a Jolteon, given water pokemon are the most dominant gym defenders here? Yesterday I had to yield to an arena that was guarded by nothing but Vaporeons.
I was kinda hoping I could just buddy up my hatched Electabuzz to raise it more, but that update seems to be delayed.

Jolteon is pretty bad. In fact all the Electric Pokemons are bad. You want Grass pokemons if you specifically want to target against Vapereon and water pokemons in general. Eevee's best evolve is Vapereon, it's one of the best pokemons in general and certainly fantastic for how common they are.

This. Electric are so bad currently you're better off bringing bringing a Vaporeon to fight water if you don't have a reasonable Grass-type to counter them with.
Also, hope they change up the combat mechanics sometime soon so I have a reason to not faceroll everything with a dragonite train.

You should evolve it into a Vaporeon and pray it has Hydro Pump.
Then you should work on catching Eggescute to evolve a Solar Beam (best) or Seed Bomb (ok) Exeggutor. They will wipe out Vapes no problem.
Lightning doesn't resist water, but Grass does, so Grass are much better to deal with Water pokemon.

Pokemon of the same type tend to cluster spawn in the same area, usually parks. If you just wander the same area you arent going to find anything new.
Hit the scanners, find a place that has regular spawns of what you want and go get it. Youll probably have to make a trip of it. If you want 125 candy plan on 4 hours.

I just hatched a pikachu from a 2km egg (these serve me better than the 10km so far)
how come it's voiced? or rather, how come not a single other pokemon is?
I know, I only got one and I caught it in Vienna. It's got good IVs, but it's very low level (1300 star dust to power up now), so even if the buddy system were here, that's a lot of walking with it.

Probably because Pikachu has a universal name and other pokemon dont.
Either that or because its the flagship pokemon.

Anyway I had what I think is a pretty good idea to fix the pokemon conversion formula. For calculating the offense stat, instead of having the formula take the average of special attack and regular attack, it should just use which ever stat is highest. This would keep pokemon like Alakazam and Machop from being unfairly penalized by having an extremely low attack stat that they never use.
For reference, under my change to the formula Alakazam would go from a max CP of 1813 to a max CP of 2778. He would still have weak defensive stats and very low HPs, but he would be a devastatingly strong attacker, like he should be. Other pokemon getting a substantial offensive boost would be Machamp, Golem, Magneton, Gengar, Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, Scyther, and Gyarados.
Everyone's CP would go up, but it would even out things quite a bit. I'm not advocating changing the base defense formula the same way because it would favor lopsided pokemon like Alakazam way too much.

Yes what was I thinking posting amusing webcomics in a thread about a childrens cartoon and game. This isn't Elitist Jerks. Anything goes as long as it's related to Pokemon Go. "Better than that" my ass.
Well there's a 5 minute cooldown, that's time to get something done, right? The problem really crops up when rare stuff spawns nearby and you gotta decide whether to ditch work to go get it or not.
