Usually you want a infant car seat for newborns and then once they reach ~20 lbs and can sit, you get a regular one that (ideally) lasts until age 12.

They are not supposed to sit early on because something something spine. Plus they sleep most of the time they spend in that seat anyway (at least my daughter does).

So we have a Cybex Aton for now, plus adapter to put it on the carriage (Hartan Topline S), which has the "little baby bag" and can be converted to a buggy.

Will get a Class I/II/III seat sometime in summer to last us the next 11 years. Or rather, two, because I'm going to drop her off at day care and the wife is going to pick her up.

Time to free up the infant seat for the sibling!

We spent just over 1000 Euros on the pram + infant seat + accessories (rain cover and shit). You can probably get around with much less but I insisted on buying something that will still look good for a second (or hell, third) kid.

The "big" seat will be roughly 200 ? each.

I just got the Grecco 40 lb carseat with an adjustable base so a toddler can sit in it. Also go the Grecco stroller thing that the seat clicks in to.

Also remember that your baby needs to be rear facing until they are a year old. There are a lot of bigger car seats that don't go rear facing so make sure you check that out. I definitely recommend the infant seat mostly for the carrying aspect when they are really little. So much easier to take them places when you can carry them around in that and not wake them up by shuffling them into strollers, wraps or your arms.

My car seat progression has infant seat until 11 or 12 months, cat seat until 3. - 4 years then into the booster seat. The boosters can have removable backs once the kid gets older. Sure it is 3 different seats but each of my kids have used them so they are well worth their money. If you plan on having a few kids, spend some money and get something good. My infant stuff has definitely reached the end of its life now, good thing I'm done having kids!

I can't believe that kids sit in a damn seat until the age of 11-12 nowadays. Hell, when I was a kid we were rolling around in the back of moms station wagon without any seatbelts(only had them in the front). How the times have changed...

I am against most changes that seem stupid compared to when I was a kid. One example, stupid bike helmets? lol... however, I have to agree that having kids needing to be in protective seats or wear seat belts is probably for the best.

I meant even back then it was pretty dumb for kids not to be in seat belts and stronger enforcement and parents trying to be safer, in my opinion, is warranted. However, kids always wearing bike helmets nowadays makes me laugh since back in the day, we didn't wear that shit.

Hence, me laughing out loud at bike helmets and saying wearing seat belts is a good idea.

EDIT - I feel like I just typed out the exact same thought twice in different posts... oh, that's because I did.

Regarding seat belts you said 'probably' before laughing at bike helmets. You didn't even click the link to see it's not solely about seat belts - it's about child safety seats, how they're placed and used (airbags) and the evidence for why not using them in general is retarded - especially compared to seat belts alone - more kids get killed and injured without booster seats.

Here's another link with regards to you laughing at bike helmets:
http://www.cdc.gov/healthcommunicati...dinjuries.html

Using yourself and your own experience as a prime source for whether or not child safety equipment saves lives and prevents injuries is just retarded.

Call me if you want to be proven stupid a third time - Have a nice day

Hey, I'm back bro. And learn to read modern day colloquialisms. I said that bike helmets are dumb and seat belts are good despite me usually not liking new over-protective things invented by modern day capitalists to scare parents and make more money. Regarding seat belts, I said probably as a way to sarcastically understate a pretty damn good idea.

Are you're joking now with your 'modern day capitalists to scare parents' too?

Both your previous statements are retarded when talking about kids - read the subject of the thread. They are not over protective things - read the cdc links with numbers, numbnuts. Seat belts are NOT a good idea for toddlers - car booster seats are.

I hope you're not in charge of kid safety in any sense *shudder*

EDIT:
One more time - this is the grown up stuff forum - take your trolling elsewhere

Holy fucking shit numbnuts. You have taken every single thing I have talked about other than seat belts and claimed I said that about seat belts. Its like a goddam bizarro world Twilight Zone episode.

Pro-tip, don't misspell your pet word when using it to neg me. Why don't you go back in the corner and keep rustling your jimmies?

To recap, for the third fucking time: Yes, I believe seat belts are helpful. No, I hate bike helmets.

How about everyone calm the hell down?

Thanks.

PS. Bike helmets suck, still made my kids wear them until they were proficient on a bike though.

The modular bases with baby carriers were a life saver for us. Even with the snap harness systems or whatever they are called, getting bases or seats in and out is such a pain. Just having the one carrier that could snap into either car was very convenient.

Izo you need to learn to over-react more...

anyways, just like the rest of them, seat belt derails are terrible.

We're also right in the middle of trying to figure out car seats, strollers, and all that crap.

We can't decide whether to initially get a modular car seat that is basically a carrier + buy extra bases to put in each car(and my moms, who will be babysitting a lot), but those only hold a child up until like 20 lbs, or just get the full-blown car seats that go up to like 40-50 lbs for each vehicle just right off the bat. The modular system is cheaper initially, and easier since it turns into a carrier without having to move the child but is more expensive in the long run since you have to buy a normal carseat in a year or two anyways.

Anyone have any thoughts on which way they went with carseats? Modular + 2 extra bases is looking at like $300ish up front, whereas 3 full-blown carseats is like a $500-$600 investment up front, but no more purchases down the road.

How well does baby stuff hold its value if we try to sell the modular ones off via craigslist or something in a year or 18 months when the kid outgrows it?
We went with the britax B agile stroller and britax chaperone carseat (kiwi and cowmooflage patterns respectively). (Kiwi is a true pain in the ass to track down - I loved that it was green (gender neutral) so could be reused without having to go black (so not an option in my house with cat hair) or sandstone (avail at toysrus and buy buy baby I believe) which I find kind of meh. The cowmooflage chaperone is available easily through amazon).

The britax B agile travel system is a bundle (no real cost savings) of the b-agile stroller and b-safe carseat - the chaperone is slightly upgraded. Carrier between b-safe and chaperone I think is very similar except that I believe chaperone has more side impact padding.

Planning on getting a britax reversible once the kid gets big enough. This one specifically.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Britax is consistently one of the highest rated car seat and stroller makers. We got an extra carseat baes as well.

Note about selling carseats - its like one of a few items that most moms wont buy used because you don't know if its been in an accident (once this happens its supposed to be replaced due to potential structural integrity issues) - so I really wouldn't worry about it holding value. The other thing moms get squicky about is used breast pumps and crib mattresses. Those are the top 3 'do not buy used' items.

That company makes awesome shit. Way too expensive, but still awesome. If we lived in the city I totally would have gotten that stroller, it just isn't that useful out where I am though.

Speaking registering....we're pretty close to being done actually with getting stuff/stuff in order. Most of the stuff I don't have at this point is consumables driven with a few notable exceptions (diaper genie, exergen temporal thermometer, compact swing (already have full one), mesh crib bumper and shopping cart cover).

The nursery room carpet is being delivered friday, the la-z-boy rocker recliner on saturday, and the crib/nightstand/dresser/changing table set in a month or sooner. Already have the art, walls have been painted for almost a year. We have our hospital tour and birthing class in a couple of saturdays, infant CPR is booked/reserved for June, pediatrician is all but finalized, we've looked into the child care FSA equivalent, we're doing our final child care center tour friday then making a decision/putting down a deposit, the breast pump order has been done for a while, maternity leave is pretty much finalized barring weirdness/preterm etc....

Eya you know I gotta say it :p - I laugh at folks who say they need to know the sex for planning purposes. No one I know has all this stuff done for kid number 1 at a month before 2nd trimester is over.

Glucose (1hr) test in about 2 weeks. I'm still down 14lbs from pre-pregnancy weight as of two weeks ago at last appointment. so they're happy I gained 2lbs. Blood pressure is great, consistently no issues with UTI's etc.

You painted a nursery before you were even pregnant? That's maybe a little bit psycho...
