I would love to play a rogue on this server since it was my love in EQ. But having no high level character to twink or power level I would absolutely need to be able to find groups as rogue. Is there any chance of that?
It's quite easy. Admittedly, though, I hope you're not prone to inadequacy issues. Rogues without epics in the low end are getting rarer and rarer due to the cheap/easy nature of the quest :p

edit: Also if you get the boxes i'll help bang out some generals for ya. Getting the quill can be annoying, so may be better to dark elf farm as well :p

Doing less damage than someone with better gear is the nature of EQ. It just pushes you to try and get better stuff. Besides its often the group that has a problem with rogues that don't have their epics not the rogue. Just always loved the class, good consistent dps, with the ability to stealth and unlock things, drag corpses etc. Was just a handy all around class at this time.

Don't plan on dragging many corpses, either. Dat hide nerf. You unlock: crypt door, xygoz/druushk/pd doors. That said once you've got the gear the class is just wtf bananas damage. Monks try to keep up, but especially in shorts fights with duelist...just no :p Rogue is definitely one of the most desirable group classes. Tanks at low levels are also strangely absent. No Pal/SK because people know of their fates at 60 and warrior aggro is just terrible in a group situation, heh.

Based on your comments it sounds like the hybrid exp nerfs are still in effect? Kunark is to early in the timeline for Pal/SK's to be considered useful on raids unfortunately

What was the hide nerf? I dragged corpses everywhere back then. CoM/Hate/Fear etc. You just have to be careful for See Invisible mobs. That's where sneak comes in.

Hide used to be a thing outside of see invis. Now it's just ivu / invis. Low lvl trash in most dungeons are like 60% see invis (they buff themselves with see invis, lols).

I think i can count on 1 hand the amount of rogues i've grouped with up to 40 who didn't have their epic. It almost feels like a requirement even at low levels if you want to be desirable.

Its admittedly been a decade but I think this was always an issue. That is why you used to always con things while sneaking/hiding. Sneak made you indifferent so you had to stay behind mobs that could see you. But it was a way smaller chance than 60% so who knows. It could definitely be problematic if you were a lazy/or shitty rogue.

25k for the best weapon in the game that also has 40% haste and allows you to bypass the expensive ass haste items, it's literally the first thing you buy when you decide to make a rogue if you've had a 60 for at least a few months. It's just too cheap for how good it is, its almost impossible to pass up. If it were 50-60k it would be more rare but 25k isn't that much.

I take it people are buying multi quests or grouping for their epics or something?

Yup, if I had the money I would too. My highest is a 40 cleric though and he's broke, so can't really do any twinking on my alts. So rogue is shelved for now.

I rolled a rogue (new to p99) about 6-7weeks ago my experiences are overall very good, it's been easy for me to get groups from the teens onwards (if i can't find one i tend to start one). You pretty much are forced to group once you hit your 30s and its much faster xp if you start grouping in your late teens for Oasis, Unrest etc. I am now 53 and still don't have my epic weapon but have recently keyed for Sebilis and HS. I regularly find crypt groups in Seb as they need a lockpick. Even an a rogue without epic is a decent dps in a group. I am hoping to either finish the quest or MQ it as my plat income has shot up considerably in the higher tier dungeons.

Started a warrior. I know we lose the aggro battle to knights, but how about dps? Seems like warriors really aren't a bad option for dps and with taunt should be able to tank to some extent. Level 9 atm - picked up a full set of crafted and a lammy. Have like 8k left and not sure what I should buy. Thoughts?

Silken whip of ensnaring is always a good investment. Decent aggro proc, good ratio, and a useful proc even when it isn't a primary weapon for you later. Also, some cheap haste (dragonborn or fbss) is a great investment.

Rogue was fun and not too difficult leveling up in vanilla, but yes you will need to group so make friends or join a guild with people around your level. I think part of the reason I loved my rogue so much was because Fish Bait had a shit ton of people plus Xasten had more friends than me and let me tag along with him. We also joined a small-ish guild (Evil Empire) right around some of the most terrible hell levels, then merged with TMO in the 40s and they were eager to get as many people planes capable as they could so it wasn't too difficult. Once I hit 46 I went right to Fear and Hate and honestly did most of my leveling in there because the group I was in almost always got the kills.

Epic seems like a must have now as others have said.

You could always get a FBSS for 8k, but thats about as low as they seem to be anytime i'm in EC
I always liked playing a rogue in PoP but i never tried one prior to that lol, velious was a pretty good time for them though since tunare's weapon (this) and vulak's (this) are both crazyily good for that era.

Then again those would be incredibly hard to get lol

If you can't afford a Ragebringer or FBSS, best thing for a new Rogue is a good weapon I would imagine. For me it was Gloomwater Harpoon which according to the wiki can be gotten for about a hundred plat these days. I don't know what is new and low level that you can afford from Kunark, but look into that.

Yeah if i had 8k to put towards a warrior that already has crafted.. i'd probably just get that whip mentioned above because it has a good ratio and it's cheap + snare is nice (honestly i'd rock a SSoY just for the nostalgia~) and try and swindle somebody to sell a FBSS for cheaper.. but the lowest i've seen is 8k while in EC

That snare whip procs at 50 or so.. not much worth of an investment early on. And SSoY is much more expensive than a Ykeshan war club (which people give away in newbie zones a lot of the times), but it procs 3 levels later. There's a lot of comparable gear that's cheaper than the "bling bling" items. Just ask around.

I've got Trochilic's Skean in my bags since 25 or so, should solve my aggro issues after 46. Funny what you can get when waiting for a druid to drop in at Steamfont druid rings. I went afk to get a shower and this guy kept kiting Renux Herkanor around till I responded so I could loot the sword :p
