I think you can enjoy the same game if you don't spend cash.
I've gone over it a few times but it is always a popular topic.
I started non-iap with a 4* Valk roll. Farmed up my own Mermaid, Dryad, Naga, and got Succubus from a PAL roll. Leveled/evolved my Mermaid to a 5* Siren. When the game proceeded to get pretty hard for my valk team I switched to using Siren as autohealer, putting all my RCV eggs on her, and finding all the green Odin friends I could. During this time I leveled/evolved all the lil dragons into 5*. I mostly ran a team of Siren as leader, 2 rainbow keepers, Lilith, Echidna, and taking whatever green Odin friends I could. With this same non-iap team I cleared up to Zeus in Starlight Sanctuary and all the technical dungeons (only half the current list was available at first). I beat Hera using stones. You will die a few times as a zombie team, it happens, I had a dozen stones saved up from clearing dungeons. I spent half a dozen to beat Hera twice.
When my girlfriend was at the doctors and in the hospital in Feb is when I started to IAP for stamina refills and to add a shitload of box space. Sitting in waiting rooms or at the hospital I had way too many hours to kill. I have really cut back though on Sta refills outside of special 1 day events like Poring Tower. People bitch about "wasting" a stone on a stamina refill...I look at it as gaming on demand. I'll waste 4.99 to rent a movie off amazon on-demand without batting an eyelash for 2 hours to amuse the gf and myself. Spending $ 0.70 to refill stamina is another hour of doing what I want when I want. I keep my spending within my gaming budget.
Moral of the story is you will spend stones to beat higher end special dungeons unless you have godly maxed out teams. You get tons of stones by clearing dungeons and with all the free stones they hand out. You can clear all the same stuff by playing non-iap.
