This was the article I used.

I bought one of the Canakits from Amazon that came with almost everything I needed. The actual Pi, a case, power supply, micro SD card and adapter to burn RetroPie onto and an HDMI cable. I keep all of my Roms loaded on a 32 GB flash drive and keep that plugged in the back. I have a wired XBox 360 controller but bought a cheap SNES style controller (USB) because it works better with older system's games.

Raspberry Pi discussion.

Since the Nintendo classic announcement, I've been thinking of building a RetroPie. I know there's tons of info out there, but any advice for someone who's never used a Pi and has almost no Linux experience would be helpful.
Same reason that I want to do it. For nearly the same price, can get a Retropie with every emulator, and every game. Forget this just 30 game stuff!

It probably runs better on the pi3 but on the pi2 retropie ran like garbage for me. The NES games of all things were terribly laggy. SNES and PSX1 were tolerable.

Something was wrong then. I use a RPi 2 and everything runs flawless. A few weird games like Starfox because it doesn't have the FX chip, but otherwise everything runs fine.

Using my DS4 in Bluetooth mode and there is terrible input lag, or that is just how NES games felt back in the day, heh. On a RPi 2 with a Bluetooth dongle. Also the built in scrapper sucks donkey balls. Keeps getting hung up on the 1st or 2nd ROM, need to look in to replacing that with something better.

Okay, I'm doing this today. What systems did you guys choose to put on your RetroPi? I'm definitely doing:

-NES
-SNES
-Genesis
-NeoGeo/Pocket/Color
-Gameboy/Color/Advance
-DS
-Dreamcast
-N64
-PS1
-MAME (which version?)

Anything else you guys think is worthwhile?

Retropie up and running.

Only real issue I have so far is that games in MAME4ALL start normally, then go into hyperspeed when I start trying to move around. I think it is a key bind issue but fuck if I can figure out which bind is causing the problem.

I bought my rpi3 SD card, couple hdmi and two USB controllers (snes and n64) from frys. Took like no time to set up. My only issue has been getting snes roms to work all the nes ones do, but the snes ones don't even show up. But meh was a fun project for around 50$ I just used some YouTube videos etc. I found a retro game store that has an actual cabinet like thing, with boards that have all nes snes Genesis n64 games built in legally apparently. Can get s cabinet with 3 boards for 800$, has hdmi out and original controller out as well. Thinking of getting one of those with nes snes and n64.

I was hoping a thread like this would pop up, I bought a few Pi3 kits on Prime day lightning deal. I want to build a couple cord cutter streaming boxes to run Kodi or something similar. The few places I found how-tos were a bit dated and some contradictory to others. Anybody have any good links to "For Idiots" walkthroughs? Thanks in advance.

What do you guys use as a good source of roms on torrent?

Just a heads up I had major problems getting most n64 roms to work on the PI.

i think you can dualboot and also install it as an addon. recalbox was just easier imo.
